Night time relief suggestions?

Mar 11, 2018 4:03 PM

Hello, does anyone have any suggestions/tips for getting a more restful nights sleep? I often struggle with getting a decent nights sleep because my whole body feels like I’m lying on one giant bruise, no matter which way I lie. I am already on a number of pain medications but feel like it’s not really helping with the pain, especially for during the night. I do get relief from heat, lying in the bath or using heated wheat bags or an electric blanket. However, I can’t keep the electric blanket on all night for sensory reasons and electricity cost. I’ve tried changing mattresses, using toppers, duvets etc etc but still feel like I’m lying on one huge bruise throughout my entire body. I wake up sobbing, unrested and exhausted. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

sleep in a recliner? or a adjustable bed?

Thanks for the suggestion Mudduck. They are both out of my price range unfortunately but it’s something I’ll definitely look into when funds allow. Thanks! :-)

What about one of those body pillows. You could partially lean on them and it may help alleviate some of your discomfort. I also use heat, massage, warm clothing, and baths and showers. Sometimes it’s not enough and I sleep on the coach . Sorry I know your dilemma as I too am having sleep issues. We’re looking into getting a new mattress. Hope you find relief soon.🦋

Thank you Painwarrior for your suggestion, I will try a body pillow to see if that will give a bit relief. I’m sorry that you too also suffer with debilitating pain levels, I hope you find relief too! I’d slept on an orthopaedic mattress for years then due to circumstances out of my control, I had to sleep on an old memory foam mattress that a relative had used. It caused havoc with my back and when I bought a new mattress once I returned home, my new mattress crippled me further. I couldn’t return it so I lost a significant amount of money. I ended up buying a cheap mattress which turned out to be more comfy but the fibro flare ups means I never get a decent nights sleep. I hope you are able to have more success with mattresses than I do! I’ve been like Goldilocks and the three bears with mine lol! 😊🦋

Thanks Lilibet! I am nervous about buying the “right” mattress. It is vital it is a good one. I’ve been spending more time on the coach then going n bed! Lol😂

I could have cried when I found out I couldn’t get a refund for my new mattress lol! Luckily the same shop gave me a discount for the other mattress I bought and got it real cheap. I was still out of pocket significantly overall but I couldn’t cope with the pain trying to lie on the first mattress. So it was a small price to pay in the end as I turn into a lady possessed when I’ve not had enough sleep lol! The couch certainly is a godsend at time lol! Strange how lying in bed is agony yet curled up on a couch is less painful lol! I’m just grateful to be able to get some rest on the couch when my furbabies curl up beside me too.🐱🦋
