Not what I planned 😩

Jun 16, 2016 10:46 AM

So I'm walking across the kitchen this morning when suddenly I feel a sharp stabbing pain below my left kneecap. I could no longer put weight on my leg, because every time I do it causes horrible stabbing shooting pain. My hubby waited around to see if it was going to pass but it didn't. I tried to get around with 2 canes then my walker, but it just wasn't going to happen. He took me to the urgent care. When I described what happened the doc began examining the leg/knee area. I asked if it was the bone spur and he said no. Apparently the kneecap slid to the left causing a sprain and possible tear on the inner side & under the kneecap. He's put me in a leg immobilizer splint and ordered rest & ice 3-4 days. Then Im to do gentle occasional range of motion movements with heat, but sleep in splint until follow up with my Ortho doc. He's on vacation until 27th. I had to call my dad and tell him what happened and that we won't be visiting for Father's Day weekend. I guess the injury could have been worse. πŸ€•. Hugs & prayers everyone has a good weekend, despite our pain! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

OMG!! Flappsy, I am so sorry to hear that you're injured. What a nightmare. My left kneecap does that and it hurts like hell. I've torn my meniscus and my ACL. Had surgery but am totally bone on bone so there's no options left but replacement. That's out of the question because I'm fat.. Oh well, such is life. I know that you wanted to get to your Dad's and I'm so sorry that you can't get there. I know how precious time is. Sending you much love my friend and prayers for a speedy recovery. {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š

Oh Flappy, I am So sorry for the injury! I know you are very disappointed. Wish I could do more than a very gentle loving hug and prayers. Much love, Terri

Jun 16, 2016 2:04 PM

Thank you both; your loving hugs & prayers means the world to me! It's disappointing about not visiting with my dad. But maybe I can go by his birthday. I went through knee and then hip strengthening PT from Mar-May, and I was doing really well. I was to follow up with the knee doc in July, but now I'll be seeing him on the 27th. He'd originally said if the PT didn't work he'd probably want to scope it just to see if there are floater fragments &/or a slight tear. Now I'm wondering if I did have a tear and it cut loose this morning. We know there's a bone spur and stage 3 chondromalacia. My spine doc was waiting for me to recover from the hernia surgery to tackle the neck issues. I guess that gets pushed back. Ugh! Oh well, all in good time. Getting around without putting weight one one leg is harder than I remembered from my foot surgery. But I think the hardest thing is trying to sit on the toilet!! 😱Lol

Wishing y'all a blessed & peaceful weekend! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

LMAO!! I hear you Flappsy.. I had a hard time sitting on the toilet too but it was more of a bitch to get UP.... πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜‚

Oh hell! I am sorry to hear about your knee. In reference to to bathroom how about getting an insert that raises up the seat about a foot? That is what the have patients use after a knee replacement. They are available at any medical supply store. On a funny note it is funny because when you pee it sounds like a loud echoing waterfall. I think the whole house can hear it. We call it the echo chsmber. My Mother has one from when she gad her keep replaced. Hope you did not actually tear anything. Call me if I can do anything, like make you laugh....

Jun 16, 2016 6:29 PM

I hate that for u flappys.. I'm so sorry.

Jun 16, 2016 7:20 PM

that sucks, so sorry to hear about your knee.

Jun 16, 2016 7:25 PM

That's funny LMB! Thanks Newfibrogirl! My hubby already says I wake him up at night. I have a high toilet, but I'm a short person. It's actually easier in the hall bath (low toilet) because I can prop my leg on the tub. But getting up isn't easy either. I can j just see myself falling over into the tub! At least it's not hurting much since they immobilized it... 😬 Unless I touch it or put weight on it accidentally. πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Flappys, I am so sorry to hear about your knee! Even more sorry you won't be able to see your Dad on Father's Day. I'll be praying that you will at least be able to make it to his birthday party.

Jun 17, 2016 11:59 AM

Thanks Moparmom, me too. I hope you & everyone has a blessed Father's Day weekend! πŸ™‚πŸ™πŸŒΌπŸ’•

Jun 18, 2016 5:07 AM

Always, I'm fat and had my left knee replaced last February.

Jun 18, 2016 6:14 AM

Well, donamel, I appreciate the info.. I'll look into it. However, being over 300 pounds and being 5'4" I don't think most would even try. I'll have to speak to my orthopedist and see what can be done. {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š

Jun 18, 2016 6:55 AM

I was 5'1" and 250. It's a vicious cycle, can't move enough to lose weight because of the pain and docs won't give surgery that would allow you to be more mobile to lose weight.

Jun 18, 2016 8:09 AM

I agree. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to walk with my knees being bone on bone

Jun 20, 2016 1:08 PM

I'm doing a little better in being able to stand on the leg, in the splint. But this morning my right leg thigh, hip, & back started bothering me; cramps, spasms, achy. I think it's from the whop-sided walking I'm doing. It's easier to balance using the walker but because I can't bend the left knee I'm having to raise my hip to raise the leg... Hence the right hip/leg pain, all the way into the low back. Yesterday I started taking the splint off and slowly moving the left knee, and it feels funny & slightly painful. But thankfully the major pain has gone. We were suppose to get out granddaughters for two days but I told my daughter not now. She responded, "but mom they're mostly self sufficient.". My response, "do you see me in this recliner with my leg up? This is where I stay most of the day. I do good to get something to eat/drink for myself & go to the bathroom. Do you really think they are going to enjoy sitting around with me like this, seeing as I won't be able to do anything with our for them? I think not." She then said, "Well we will check how you are in a few days." 😢 duh!

Jun 20, 2016 1:17 PM

OMG.. I'm sorry Flappsy!! Such a nightmare. I'm glad you're coming along but be careful. I went to pain management today and there was a power outage so we had to sit over an hour and a half and then when I went in, I went to sit down, my knee gave out and then my neck, jaw and left shoulder locked up and my arm hung down and I couldn't move. Took him 1/2 hour to get it to release. Needless to say, I have a migraine and feel horrible. It makes sense that the other side of you is hurting because you have to walk weird with the splint. Be careful and give yourself time. Sending you lots of love, gentle {{{Hugs}}} and prayers that you heal up quickly.πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š

Oh AlwayZ, how awful for you. Bless your heart, you need a few really good months yourself! I'm taking it easy myself, but you do the same. You & Moparmom having suffered so much loss so soon together; my heart aches for you both. Take it easy and rest. Try a warm or cool computers over your eyes in a dark room just relaxing. Much (((hugs))) love & prayers that you will be on the mend yourself. There's just too much happening to too many of us all at once. 😦 As Charlie Brown says, "Good grief!!!" πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Jun 20, 2016 8:21 PM

Good grief is certainly s good analogy. I will do my best to rest and take care of myself. Thanks for the well wishes my friend!! {{{{HUGZ}}}} -!

Jun 21, 2016 9:16 AM

FlappysLady81 head west! You can have my recliner and we can sit together and laugh at all the stupid things people say to us. Glad you are doing a bit better! Progress forward no matter how slow is still progress!

Jun 21, 2016 9:46 AM

Flappsy, you could also head North.. You could hang out in my other recliner in the a/c and we can do the same... LOL!!πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š

Jun 21, 2016 10:22 AM

Lol! At the rate I'm moving it would take me a year or longer to reach either of you... Speedy Gonzalez I am not! πŸ˜‰

Jun 21, 2016 3:15 PM

LOL!!! I love your humor Flappsy!! πŸ˜‚

Jun 22, 2016 6:10 AM

That sounds awful! Hope you feel better soon! Waiting around for specialists can be super annoying! Hugs! 😊

Jun 22, 2016 11:02 AM

Hopetobe, The extra time in the splint is annoying, but the info sheet from the ER said I could be in it 6-8 weeks if it is a tear. Ugh!!! In this heat & humidity ugh-ugh!!! Lol.

Good news is I've improved enough to use only one cane, so the walker is gone this morning...yay! I'm removing the splint and doing gentle bends for range of motion as instructed. Although it feels weird it's no longer hurting. And I've found if I walk like a 🐧, taking baby steps, it's not causing pain to my right hip, thigh, & low back nearly as bad.

Now the question is, do I ask the knee doc to go ahead and scope it, to make sure I can be mobile after my neck surgery is done? Or do wait until after the neck surgery, taking a chance that I could reinjure the knee, since we already I've got issues? Hmm....any opinions? πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ
