Oh my God the unbearable pain.....

Oct 27, 2016 6:30 PM

I haven't been able to do anything but lay and poop since last Friday.
It started out as a normal Fri morning, a cup of tea, shuffle out the front to sit in the sun and have my ciggy and cuppa, say good morning to my beautiful dog.
Then it hit! I needed as usual to go to the loo. I get in there pop out a rabbit poop and then the pain statred. I couldn't pass anything else. It was unbearable, I had to call my son to bring my ph. Called my mum bawling my eyes out from the pain. I couldn't do anything but cry and scream. So at my insistence she called the ambulance. They took me to Emergency.
Four enemas, three drs probing my poor bottom trying to break up a mass that was the size of a huge grapefruit. More screaming. Caused by taking two more Endone than I should've on my sons school excursion the day before. More intravenous pain meds than anyone is allowed. I'm still crying in agony. To cut a long story short. 12 and a half hrs later and masses of movicol my bowel decided to work. I felt like I was 5 as I sat on the comode clapping and crying because the pain had gone from a 15 out of 10 to a 5. So home i go, still very much in pain, only to lay on the lounge for 4 day's and drinking movicol, shuffling to the loo every hour. Still waiting for a proper bowel movement today.
Has anyone else had this problem???

I've fought with chronic constipation over the past few years as well. Meds mess you up. It's embarrassing, but it's a part of life. I hope it gets better for you.

I don't get it as extreme but I do get constipation with my meds. There have been times where I haven't been for 7 or 8 days with all the normal bits I've had like orange juice and lots of veg haven't worked so I take fibergel, a few hours after that I'm on the toilet and I'm in tears where because it's been that long it's compacted and become quite big that it kills coming out even with using vaseline to try to help it.
At times its hard to understand how I've gone from being regular everyday to thus!
sending positive thoughts and hugs your way xx

I do not receive pain medication on a regular basis but it is actually quite normal to have blockages on it long term. I suggest trying miralax every day if you can get it. It will help but drink lots of water as this helps as well. Sorry for your difficult time. Sending healing prayers your way.

I'm suppose to take miralax every day but I forget. I have chronic constipation. It does get painful at times but not to that extreme.

I was going to suggest Miramax. My fiance had terrible problems - especially when the cancer left him bed ridden. Taking Miramax every evening helped.

I've had IBS-C for decades and due to severe surgery and complications in 2010 I have a very delayed motility. I use Senna-S, Colace, citrucel and magnesium every day, drinking lots of water (LOTS...120 oz). My sjogrens makes me feel constantly dehydrated, which is the reason for more than average water intake. Sometimes I also need to take Miralax. I eat fresh fruit like apples daily, as well as a fruit smoothie. And I've reduced the daily sugar intake. I hope you feel much better soon! Hugs love and prayers! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈ

Hugs and hope you recover soon. I really feel for you. The only thing that improved that issue for me was going vegan .. I eat meat rarely and now find I no longer can tolerate any dairy ... Has eliminated 95 % if the problem ... I had ended up with a prolapse bladder after surgery because of nerve damage and all the meds afterwards causing a blockage ...
Good times, good times ... Sorry you had to go through that.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!😊 I have a fibre powder that I'm taking now but there's still a bit blocked. I haven't been for four days. So I think I'll try the Movicol again plus I'm eating dried apricots and yes FlappysLady81 I am drinking loads of water.. I'll be looking like a fish soonπŸ˜‚ I do have a question though. The ambulance man (very nice too!) Said that apples can sometimes bind you up. Have you heard of that before?

That's a new one to me, I know sometimes if I have too many bananas that can make my constipation worse. I've also found that eating veg, particularly green veg, helps me a lot more than most fruit (orange citrus being the exception).
Do you have regular blood tests? what are your sodium levels? I ask because drinking an excess off water can dilute the sodium in your blood and prolonged low sodium levels can cause permanent neurological problems. Last year when I was on pregabline, carbamezapine, gabapentine and amitriptyline I was drinking a lot of water, I was drinking at least a pint of water every half hour, I constantly felt thirsty and the last time I called an ambulance, before we went into the woman's refuges, they took me to A&E where they did bloods and my sodium levels were so low so between the pain and the low sodium levels they kept me in.
They were rubbish with the pain control but good for the sodium levels. I was limited to 2l of water a day and it took a week and a half for my sodium levels to go back to normal!
Please be careful with drinking too much water, you really don't want the prolonged low sodium levels xx

OMG!!! I feel so badly for ALL of you.. (my ass hurts just thinking about it😳). I get that maybe once every several months and it's certainly not pleasant. I drink 3 liters or more of water a day and it doesn't do it for me always but I find if I make sure to move and stretch, it doesn't happen as often. Hope all your tummies and bums are no longer sore!! {{{Hugs}}}😊
