Pain Clinic appt update

Aug 17, 2017 11:56 AM

Today I had my first appointment with the pain clinic. Everything went well, she put me on nuerontin to see if it will help with pain also. She ordered some records and my next visit they will start me on some pain medication. They just need time to get records of my x-rays, MRI'S and blood work. I had results of my last bloodwork and results from when I got diagnosed with Sjรถgren's syndrome and fibromyalgia. She let me know that they will everything that they can to relieve some of my pain. Unfortunately Medicaid only pays for physical therapy 3 times a year. But she did say I can take yoga that's offered for free every week. And once they get the X-ray and MRI'S then the doctor can do steroid shots too. So for now my primary doctor still has to issue the Percocet till my next appointment with the pain clinic. I just hope that they start me on something that will last in my system for pain and something for my breakthrough pain, which I will discuss the next time. So thank you everyone for the advice. Hugs๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Sounds like you found a good doc that will listen to you. That's so good to hear when some of them could care less. I'm so happy for you. Good luck with the future treatments/meds. I'll be praying for you.

And I want to thank you guys for being there for me. You guys kept me from just going crazy. Every doctor that I have seen so far can't believe that it took 3 years to get approved for Medicaid. Especially with all my health issues that I have and all the pain I have been suffering with. I'm looking forward to my new normal. One thing I have to realize is that when I do take pain medication and can do more things like housework or watching my baby niece is too not over do it. Because the next day my body is sore and super fatigued. Now fighting for disability again because I have accepted that I cannot go back to teaching. But thanks again for all your support and helping me to not give up. HUGS TO EVERYONE๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

@LittleLola, so far I have a great primary doctor, gastroenterologist, and pain management doctor. I have appointments with nephrologist tomorrow and the eye doctor. Then next week Rhuematologist and gynecologist. So we will see how those go, I have been on a good streak with getting good doctors so far. Thank God!

That's a blessing indeed..
But what happened with the drug testing?
Thanks for sharing the good news...maybe someday I'll be able to share good news too...all my best!

@LittleLola, I know exactly how you feel and I have been where you are at. I had to quit teaching in 2013, didn't know why I was getting sick with different things all the time. After a year my unemployment and short term disability insurance and savings ran out. So I couldn't go to the doctor anymore because of no health insurance. I was seen at a clinic that had a sliding fee scale and that's how I found out I had lupus. January 2016 I was lucky enough to be seen at a rheumatologist and further testing was that I had Sjรถgren's syndrome, lupus and fibromyalgia. Talk about bad luck, I felt so overwhelmed because I already knew I had herniated discs in my back, torn cartilage in my knees, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and joint pain. Now add on those three illnesses. I filed for disability and when I had my hearing my lawyer was not prepared because all he had was depression and anxiety, he had none of my physical illnesses. And with no health insurance, it has been hard to prove I'm disabled. I had to fight for Medicaid and the hospital that I go to helped with that because my hospital bill is close to $200,000 in a 2 year time because that was the only place I could go when I felt like I was on death bed. Everyday I have been suffering in pain, everyday I would worry if today I'm going to have a flare. It's like I was tortured because of all the pain I was in. If I did get lucky enough to see a doctor they didn't do anything at all. I felt like my luck as the worst because for the past 4 years since this all started nothing was going my way. So finally last month I got awarded Medicaid after years of fighting but as for disability I had to start a whole new claim. So so won't get any back pay from when I first officially filed. And my thing is in order to get Medicaid I had to be deemed disabled by the disability people. So I don't see how they can turn me down for disability when they said yes for Medicaid but we will see. I just had to let things go and leave it in God's hands. But I'm praying for you and thinking positively that good luck will come your way. Hugs ๐Ÿ’œ

@Spunky, they did a urine test which had the sticker on it which could give them an immediate result but they also send it off. I'm assuming everything was ok because the nurse practitioner told me to ask my primary to prescribe me some pain medication one more time. But my next appointment she said they will start me on pain medication prescribed from them. They have to get X-rays and records from when I was diagnosed with Sjรถgren's syndrome and lupus. She said my knees are really doing bad because of the crunchy sound when you bend them and hey were super swollen today. Unfortunately I can't do physical therapy because Medicaid only pays for it 3 times a year but they do offer yoga for free once a week. And once we get updated MRI'S then the doctor can do steroid shots. It was a very good visit.

Wow I'm so glad I'm in the U.K! I'm sorry you've been through all of that, it must have been so hard for you without insurance. Most doctors over here are awful but I appreciate how lucky I am that I get free healthcare. I'm so so happy you've got your insurance sorted. I will be thinking of you I hope your disability goes well ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜˜

Painelady you didn't get a disability retirement from school district?
I didn't think you could get unemployment because teachers have their own system?

Aug 19, 2017 12:51 AM

@Spunky, I worked for a private school so it's different than the public school system.

Aug 19, 2017 1:09 AM

Painedlady, I'm so glad you had a good appt! It's really important to have as many medical records as you can get so that your pain docs have info to go on. Just don't get discouraged if the meds they offer you aren't exactly what you were hoping for. They tend to go in baby steps and use non pill forms of pain relief like the yoga and injections you mentioned. I've heard that insurance can deem some things not necessary and deny them also. It sounds like you have yourself a good place that will do what they can to help you ๐Ÿ˜Š. I'll say a prayer for you for disability. It seems impossible sometimes I know. I'm just now looking into it ( I'm terminal) on top of Hashimoto's with Graves' disease, arthritis, periferal artery disease, severe allergic asthma, neuropathy and post herpetic neuralgia and GERD. I still look like I won't qualify. It's NUTS!! Hopefully you will be able to win your case. I'm sorry you aren't able to teach anymore. Have you ever looked into online tutoring as something to do?

Aug 20, 2017 6:08 PM

@Goobette38 Hi sorry to but in ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Just wanted to say that you not getting disability seems crazy to me!? I'm in the U.K. So it's diffrent here but I can't belive you might not qualify! I will be thinking of you both ๐Ÿ’•
