I had exhausted all resources with my family doctors (family run, having three doctors) and rheumatologist. In March I was sitting with my family doctor frustrated that there was nothing else she could do for me at this point. Her father overheard and mentioned a good friend of his (who happened to be a pain specialist) would be popping in the following week. They set me up to see him....BEST day of my life. He always makes me feel like he understands my pain, and that he CARES about my pain. (I have severe fibromyalgia, chronic pain, scoliosis, and arthritis in my spine) I have already had three epidural cortisone injections in my spine, and yesterday started my first nerve blocks. His goal is to see me pain free, even if it's just for a short while. And he does it will a smile every time. Good luck ! I hope your experience is nothing short of wonderful ☺
I have been going to a pain clinic for three months. I have always felt heard but it's taking a while to get the correct meds in helpful doses. I have pain all over, from many conditions fibro, arthritis, MS ++ so I guess it's tricky. Not at all to say my pain is worse than anyone else's here. I did a very long intake questionnaire via computer and keep it updated each time I go. Then the pain specialist who is a PA, listens, asks questions and prescribes. I'm on five meds for pain versus 0-1 and overusing otc meds which had stopped working anyway. I feel very fortunate to be going to the pain clinic.
It took me 6 months since my last doctors visit to get the emotional energy/activation to try another consultation. Don't doubt yourself but at the same time, give yourself the space to process. But not as long as I take... 😬
