Pain Meds Not Working

Jul 17, 2018 11:15 PM

I am getting really Frustrated because none of my pain meds are working, nothing I have tried has stopped my neck and right shoulder from hurting like heck. This is my second year taking PT,although the neurosurgeon tells me my spinal cord has a small amount of space in my spinal canal he prescribed aquatic therapy my lower back pain stopped but the c -spine area has begin to hurt so much it actually feels like my neck muscle are rock hard but my neck seems to be getting weaker. How much more does my Dr think I should take before relieving this pressure in my neck. I have an appt to see my Pain Management Dr next week but I am beginning to want to go to the ER

Thanks AnimalLover, I am just trying to make it just 2 more days sitting up at work , then I can do a lot of Home remedies to help me make it to my Pain management appointment. I tried to see the Dr sooner, but it’s too far to travel to another office

Are you able to do inversion therapy? I have a Teeter Hang Up and love hanging like a bat, it releases and allows the spaces to reopen in between my vertebrae. If possible give it a try. Please check with your physician or physical therapist before you try it. Best of luck and I hope it helps you.

I too have neck and shoulder muscles that are so hard and stiff it’s crazy. Massage helps a bit, but only temporarily of course as the pain and stiffness is back within a day or so. I find those stick on heat patches helpful. I’m not sure they take away the pain as such, but the heat is really soothing and minimizes the pain that I feel. When I’m home I use a seed-filled neck and shoulder wrap that can be microwaved. It’s a ridiculous struggle to maintain any kind of relief. I take aspirin with codeine when I can get it (it’s not always available at the pharmacy) and that helps too.

Thanks All, after a week long bout with severe neck pain and shoulder aches, I have decided to get a Second opinion from another Neurosurgeon , I made a hard decision because on my last visit I told my Neurosurgeon I was having tremors in my right arm, this was a month before pain developed in my right shoulder and right side of my neck, his exact words were he didn’t understand why I was having shaking in my right arm if my decline in space in my spinal canal was on the left side , and he needs another MRI to see what’s going on. But after a month his assistant tells me he thought my Pain Mgmt Dr would order the MRI, but he prescribed An oral Steroid for a week to alleviate some of my developing pain. That was a month ago

YES....... I think I have found the right providers for my conditions. I received a referral from my PCP , which was a 2nd opinion referral, although my diagnoses didn’t change I was able to find out what was causing my slowly developing excruciating pain, they change my Aquatic PT to Traction and Dry Needling Therapy, I just hope my lower back does not begin flaring also. I just don’t think I could function if both my Lower Back and Neck flares at the same time😱
