Pain rehab and school

Sep 13, 2017 9:48 AM

I'm finally going to pain rehab next week! I'm so excited and happy to get this opportunity. However, I just got in to collage a week later that the class started so I'm already behind. The knowledge of that is stressing me out and on top of that I am now going to be away for almost two weeks. So I am currently trying to both catch up with the week I missed AND read ahead because I'm going to miss so much. With me getting so stressed about school my brain fog is getting worse and worse.

I have already said to my teacher that I'm going to rehab but I got the feeling she didn't really care. So now I'm a bit scared of talking to her tomorrow saying that I won't only be away for two week but I'm not really going to have the energy to study at all while there.

Any suggestions on how I should think about school and rehab without getting so stressed? Or suggestions on how to really focus on getting better while there without thinking of school all the time?

Is there any way you can start your studies at a different time? Your health is the most important. I think once you could get some of the health issues addressed you would hopefully feel better and have more strength and stamina to focus on your studies.

I think the next one starts next fall but I'd rather not drop out since it's hard to get in

I understand. Could u just talk to the school and see? Maybe because of your situation they could help u get in.

I understand the struggle. I started to get sick halfway through my degree and after finishing it this year I need to take a break year because you just can't prioritize health and stress makes everything worse. So I agree with putting health first. There is no use working towards a future u can't enjoy because you'll probably be critically ill after neglecting your health.

Try talking to your disabled students association. They can help get accommodation and make sure that profs take your condition seriously and won't blow you off.

Thank you for the support! I've been studying all day everyday since I posted and I have actually been able to catch up and read ahead!! My teacher showed support and told me that I could skip the first class but I felt like I wanted to really give it a good try before I could make a decision. I really don't like to miss out on assignments because I know that I'll probably have to make up for it later. So now I'm hopeful that I'll be able to hand in all the assignments in time.

I think one of the biggest problem I have is that I don't really see myself as disabled. I "just" have chronic pain that holds me back. I'm hoping that I can get some help with that during rehab 😊
