Painful burning skin

Sep 09, 2017 10:01 PM

Hello everyone , I'm new to this app. I'm too fatigued to write more about myself but I have this really painful patch of skin on my upper back/shoulder that has been there for about three months that flares up and less but is always there. Today it is bad, spread up my neck and is just really hurting to have even my softest of shirts touching. Any suggested reliefs any of you have tried??

Hi I have a several illnesses. The one that plague me the most is my fibromyalgia. I take muscle relaxers and pain medications. I just started a new medication to help the nerves in my body. Have you gone to a doctor? Heating pads work a little for the pain in my joints, but if your skin feels like it's burning that's not gonna work. Have you tried ice packs and a over the counter pain reliever? That's something short term, you should get to a doctor fast. It sounds painful, sorry you're feeling bad and can get some relief soon.

Welcome moonie. I have a friend that has that painful skin. I have fibromyalgia but thankfully not that kind of trouble. She wears as light a clothing as possible uses ice but can't take too many pain pills or she'll get hives. Not much help but welcome to the community. You'll find love and support here. 👍

I'm fibromyalgia but I contracted contact dermatitis. It's patches spread. Painful burning and itching. I have been going through the paces with meds but we pushed massive B12, and then normal antihistamines. I'm on antibiotic cream because it turned into impetigo, I was diagnosed as Shingles at first so I did a round of antiviral. Now, I am on steroids. I'm feeling like my skin is finally healing. I was covered on every limb, torso and head.
Go to your Dr. There's no prize for pain!

Hi Moonee,
I'm sorry to hear about your current condition. I too suffer from fibromyalgia, and I too experience burning skin sensation. In my case it took several attempts before I settled on a medication which worked well enough with the skin pain. Although I suffer from various other medical conditions, burning skin pain is the worst. It took fentanyl patches to control it. In my case however it involves most of my body feeling burnt. I would suggest you visit your doctor and discuss your opinions. You may not need such a strong medication: everyone reacts differently and each persons circumstances are unique. Good luck and I'll be praying for you.

Thanks everyone for your kindness. I see my rheum in two weeks and we will look at a few new joints that seem to be flaring and this skin. Between her, my neurologist, and other what I call "ists" I am on a heavy stream of medications. Some are helpful (colchicine was life changing) and others not (on third muscle relaxant that I take steadily through out the day and my muscles never really relax). I have current diagnoses of CFS/ME, Fibro, migraine, occipital neuralgia, and of course those have led to anxiety and depression. This burning skin seems to take the cake and feels like it drives me nuts!!! I really can't be naked and not having my shoulder touch anything all the time... 😊

I either have burning skin or itching. For both I use frankincense and lavender in a cream. Don't use that junk in stores it has a carrier oil that can cause your skin to burn, just like soaps and lotions. If you choose to go this route use a brand that can be ingested, orally. They are the purest form. But remember a few drops goes a long way.

I also have fibromyalgia and this past year I have been extremely itchy around the neck area, between the shoulder blades and the back side of my upper arms.. it gets so itchy and irritated that at times I've had to use ice packs to sooth it.....a damp frozen washcloth can help as well.
