Painful spasms/muscle contraction at night waking me up.

Jun 05, 2015 9:27 AM

I was just curios if anyone else has experience this. In the last few months, I have been waking up in painful spasms/muscle contractions after trying to move position.

I have athletic injuries to spine, knees, hands. Degenerative in my lower back (inoperable due to the number of vertebrae) that requires a Rhizotomy every year. I have increasing Stenosis. I've had numerous scopes and degeneration. And was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis seven years ago. I'm always in pain, but after I get up and going, I still work. I was brought in athletics with the motto no pain no gain so I refuse to quite, but these night spasms are really making me exhausted. Not to mention they are extremely painful. I take an Ambien and tizandine before bed if I "feel" that it might be coming, and I still wake up. Currently taking Cimzia injections once a month. Have tried Humira and Enbrel.

I've had so many muscle spasms, has kava root or magnesium and potassium worked for you?
I had a specific type in my leg, and I'd try to drag myself out of bed even though it hurt.
If it's a small muscle (something in toe or finger-ish) magnesium and potassium usually help.
If it's bigger (knee, leg, rib, shoulder) kava and Magnolia seem to do more.
I hope something helps!

Paincrusher, I get nighttime spasms in my lower legs. Now before I even go to bed I rub voltaren gel in and it's helped some, if they're the least bit tight. I haven't tried the suggestions from Ferretbandit mentioned yet. I keep forgetting what to buy. Lol. I need to make a list. Hope you find some relief soon. 🙏🌼

Thank you. I'll look it into it. I have also noticed that all the storms we've been having in my home state, my stiffness, joints popping, pain, and spasms have been off the charts. The only correlation I've seen so far is high pressure is causing it to worsen.
