Pets and Relief/Coping

Aug 18, 2016 11:57 AM

So. I recently moved in with my boyfriend from my parents house. We're working on getting his fur baby into the apartment ($800 pet deposit comes first), and we're discussing getting a dog.

I've always found being around animals helps me feel a bit better, or at least helps me cope better.

Do you find that your furbabies help make things more bearable?

I definitely feel that haveing a pet helps I'm looking into getting a service animal however i live with my parents and my mom does not like dogs or any animal for that matter.

Hi siren,
Having a pet around definitely helps! I have a dog and I don't know what I would do without her. I find if im stressed or sad just being around her helps.

yes. my dog sticks to me 24/7, makes me go out and hang out in nature more, meet other doggy owners(have met some good people), makes me laugh and provides the best companionship and unconditional love. They remind you to keep your heart warm. At the same time, it s a big responsibility. Dogs need regular exercise, especially if they are of active kind. If the dog sheds it adds to housework (eg daily vacuming) you cant travel freely because he/she may develop separation anxiety, or you might not have a friend who can petsit. My advice would be to consider all these factors (oh and cost) and carefully chose the breed from a reputable professional and ethical breeder. Otherwise you might have more stress. Basically they are like children. 10 to 15 year commitment to a being that looks upto you for everything and could suffer withot their needs met. However I prefer pets to children and they are loyal and supportive, invaluable ;)

Oh, I have had dogs and pets before. My mom just won't let me take the family dogs (which I understand), lol. I was by and large wondering if others had the same experience.
