Physical illness dismissed because of mental health history

Feb 01, 2016 12:13 PM

Hi,

I have been experiencing some horrible symptoms on and off since September but my GP just isn't taking me seriously. Despite feeling mentally fine and being off anti depressants since November my doctor is convinced it is all in my head and down to anxiety. It's driving me mad as the only reason I'm feeling anxious and depressed is because of how I feel physically!

He even went as far as challenging whether I should be given a medical cirtificate for work despite the fact that I can barely get out of bed and when I do its agonizing... because it might be good to get out and get my muscles moving!

I'm now not only in pain but fuming too!

Has anyone else experienced this kind of discrimination?

I agree I get so tired of not being taken serious.

Find another doctor! You are the patient, you are paying him, if you are not being heard then dimiss his ass. I say this with the deepest respect. Love and Blessings, Terri

Preach it Terri!!!!!!!! I remember having those same kind of conversations with you by text message.
Kelly, Terri is right. Dismiss him if he isn't listening to you.

Rheumatologist! GPs honestly annoy the crap out of me. It's so hard to find one that listens. Please find yourself a specialist, either in rheumatology or neurology.

I've fired quite a few doctors over the last several years. You need a real doctor. For the bum!

Thank you for your support. πŸ’• Its comforting to know I'm not alone but at the same time really shocking that others have felt like this!

Unfortunately I can't dismiss him as I live in the UK! πŸ˜‚ As much as I want to fire his ass... 90% of the time the NHS is wonderful but it's things like this that give it a bad name! I would love to go private but i'm unable to work because of the illness, hence I don't have the money to go private.

I have managed to get a referal to an endocrinologist from him which is a step in the right direction! But it's going to take weeks to and I've been off work for so long already. 😣

Kelly5 - I had a useless doctor who dismissed what I was telling her until I changed doctors in November 2015 and now I have a good doctor who helps & reassures me about my condition. Change doctors asap sweetie

It is sad..Kelly but if enough of us stand up then all drs will get the point that we pay there bills..literally.. They can't get insurance payments if we don't go to there office.. I had a Dr a gyn who told me he would not do my surgery nto remove mutliple massive tumors until I lost150lbs... Yes..needless to say I left him and his whole office. And am still thinking about filing a complaint.
