Hi guys, well it's not been quite 24 hours yet, but I'm just a little concerned. Have a email into the surgeons office for Monday. As the title suggests, I have popped 4 of the external stitches since about 9:30 ish last night. I'm not having any bleeding/redness, etc. Incision line is still very tender but that still doesn't explain why this keeps happening. No, I don't have diabetes or EDS either. Suggestions/concerns?
It's been awhile since I last had stitches that didn't dissolve. It may be normal for them to start breaking. Just keep them clean and call the doc in the morning. Oh the beige I told you that had staph injx... She did like you, breaking out in additional places. She also passed it to her mother. Now they're both having to get the same treatment like you. I'm praying you are not going to have anymore, and that they won't either. Hope you have a good night's rest. Do something relaxing before going to bed. 🙏🌼
FlappysLady, I already put an email in this afternoon. Actually, mine is not completely MRSA. Mine is hidradenitis which looks similar to MRSA. Going to call infectious disease back in the morning to see if actually need to do anymore IV antibiotics at this time or what.
Use some medical tape and pull tissue edges back together. At this point even a band aid can be used to pull the tissue edges together. Depending on how many layers of stitches you have the incision is not going to be a nice scar. I assume hope your surgeon will have you come in the office and at least clean the site and ask them to 'benzoin and steri- strip it'. The combo is super sticky and should help you heal. Literally the stuff has to wear off. Usually takes about 10 days before Strips fall off. This would usually be done after stitches are removed. Sutures are usually left in 10 to 14 days. Depends on procedure and type of suture material.
Oops, I forgot they gave you a different dx . I'm sorry. I do that a lot and it drives my hubby nuts! But I think it was almost 2 weeks ago my neice got the infx, and after the lab work they said its not MRSA, just staph.
Unfortunately my sister is at risk because she's got MRSA inside her cervical disc fusion three years ago, and they had to reopen her surgical site, clean it and let it drain before they could stitch her back up. It pops out now and then, and she got the staph infection from her daughter. That's what scares me about any procedure is getting MRSA. I don't know about other hospitals but three in our area keeps having problems. MRSA & C-deficile are rampant in one.
Anyway, I hope your doc does like LMB suggests so it will heal with a better scar edge. 🙏🌼
FlappysLady, that is quite alright. I've finally heard back from the surgeons office. They said if it starts bleeding to hold pressure on it and if I can't get the bleeding to stop, then come in today. Otherwise, it can wait til tomorrow. They also want me to take it very easy today. Just minimal stuff, etc. just happy I don't have to come in today. Got enough on my plate besides that to worry about.
Typically an abscess does not have any internal stitches. That being said if it was deep it would. Unfortunately I think the option of a nicer scar is not an option. It will be whatever it will be. Sorry.
