Quadriplegic.....Rotator Tendon impingement!!

Jun 26, 2016 8:34 PM

So as you know by the title, and you guts that know me, I have an SCI at levels T7/8 Complete injury and C3/4&C6/7 incomplete injury, thus means that I have paralysis in all four limbsand from the armpits down. My arms are not fully affected as the spinal cord in my neck was an incomplete injury. Some of you know I d been back in spinal rehab working on my arms,wrists...somehow I've managed to get this Rotator tendon impingement (shoulder impingement). How many of you have had Shoulder issues and what therapy did you receive and how long, if it did get better did it take to heal? My docs said I might have to have cortisone injections.

I pulled something in my shoulder in 2004. I was told it was just a pulled muscle and to take muscle relaxants and advil and sleep it off.
It triggered my fibromyalgia.
To this day I have no idea what that initial injury actually was but my shoulder hurts most of the time. I have gotten the most help with massage and acupuncture which points to muscle related for my current problems with it.
I'm sorry your shoulder got hurt. I hope you can find someone with the same injury to give you advice.
Hugs

Hi jahmac,

My husband just had his rotator-cuff trimmed under GA... unfortunately his bicep tendon had unattatched and srunk down too far to reattatch leaving him with a 'popeye' bicep... but this causes him no pain.

The cuff trim has floored him tho... bearing in mind we are all in tremendous personal physical pain...andyes i know...all pain is relevant to the individual...but this past week... he has reached new levels of negatory expressionism!

Needless to say his prescription of paracetamol is sufficient 7days post OP... so i guess im just saying... surgery comes last! He went there first... and kinda regretted it! Sorry for stating the obvious, have u tried heat to help... or i find Emugel (diclofenac diethylammonium) pain-ease gel/anti-inflamatory gel helps somewhat too...i hope u find some relief soon 😚

Thanks Lulabel, Hope your husband isn't in too much excessive pain for too long. 😊

Hes very well thanQ... 7days post OP and he sleeps like a baby on that side, so hes doing better than me today! I prefer to hide mine from my family under a wicked PMA & a butt load of makeup... lol they know im in pain... they dont need to see how ugly it can be at times! Its been 13 years now... my children have grown up not remembering a time when i was not in pain, but life goes on... & im still here ;)

its so nice to finally find a place where i can open up, and be understood for who i am. My pain does not define me... all the same, it is mine and it is part of me - so i own it with pride, and i am not ashamed... just misunderstood & misinterpreted, as so many of us are! Here i feel free...

Oooooh hark at me! Lol and on a monday morning! U see how u have inspired me to reach out... honestly...just thanQ 😊

Hi goto ...apologies i did nt see ur post, acupuncture is one of my most favourable therapies... altho my hubby faints at the thought of having his chi messed with atm lol...bless him πŸ˜‰

Jun 27, 2016 5:02 AM

Lulabel, are you from the UK? I can't imagine someone from the US saying 'hark at me'! That's one of ours down here in The West!!πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‚. It's hard because I don't have much control in my arms but the part I have feeling the most has now got this pain I'm not used to, so it's almost like its worse, because I'm not used to feeling a different type of pain, So Monday morning and I'm miserable πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

"Busted!" ...yes im in Hampshire now, but my adoptive parents were from Bristol (prob a bit of my mother coming thru)... i was brought up in the london area tho... so i have a london accent... which i often hide under a private school elocution just for show! I think i mayhave been a pirate in a former life tho... my language can turn the air blue if im not careful lol x

So nice to meet u... where are u hiding out sweetie?

Jahmac, I've had impoundments of both shoulders at different times. I received 1 cortisone injx for each, and then I went through 8 PT sessions for each and have had no further issues. Hugs & prayers you will be able to get through this sooner with no problems! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Thanks Flappys, they'll do physio but obviously i have limited use of my arms,so my consultant said that he may just go with cortisone injections anyway because of my limitations. 😊

You will need someone to help you move the joints and ice them often, or it will actually make them stiff and more painful about 24-48 hours. I forgot twice and thought I wasn't going to be able to move! Lol. Hugs & prayers it will give you relief! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Hi JAHMAC, so sorry bout you having more probs than you have already. I have ongoing shoulder issues. A few years back I got a shot of cortz. to ease the pain. It worked pretty good for a while. I sure hope you can get your shoulder feeling better.

JAHMAC, I know exactly what you're dealing with. Back many years ago, I had dealt with shoulder issues (tears and impingements) that caused me so have one surgery after the next. It seems when they fixed one thing, it effected another and then I had 6 lengthy shoulder surgeries back to back in about 1.5-2 years. I was pissed I had to go through it and now I have no shoulder joint left. Would have been nice if they could have just realigned everything and fixed me up the first or second time!! I hope you have success with whatever they need to do to fix it and that you are then relieved of the issues.{{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜
