Question

I've not been on here for very long and I need some advice. My doc has got me on Norco 5/325 every 6 hours as needed for pain. Should I be taking this before the pain gets intolerable? Sometimes, I like to be the one that says, "I don't need no stinking pills," but yet I'm really uncomfortable. It just seems like a never ending cycle.

Absolutely... The only way pain meds can be effective is for you to take them before the pain levels get out of control. You have to take them when you notice the pain becoming a bit of a distraction. If you wait too long, the pain will be stronger than the meds and won't offer much relief. Hope that's helpful... Welcome to the group!!

Amandamiddleton1234, I've always been told to never wait until the pain is unbearable. Stupidly I sometimes try to tough it out too long.

I use my major pain meds for bed/night time, and Tylenol for daytime, or other non-major pain meds.

Pain teams at my hospital use to tell me always stay on top of the pain, never let it become unbearable.

Amanda welcome to our group. The Dr's and nurses will tell you to stay on top of the pain, and from experience I have learned that is true if you wait until the pain becomes unbearable and take it the meds will not work like they should.

Take it as lrescribed. It doesn't work well in catching up with uncontrolled pain. I hate taking meds too but functional vs feeling like death is part of weighing the cost vs benefit

Hello All
I am new here and not sure if I am telling you something you have already tried, but if you are at home try taking a 20 min soak in dead sea salt then take your pain medication. I have found it relaxes the muscles and it seems to help the medication take effect quicker. I know what works for one person does not work for others but anything is worth a try.

WOW... Welcome to the group, Thumper... That's a cool idea, I'm going to give it a try.

I did some reading about this a while ago. To stay ahead of the pain curve an article said to take meds once it gets to 3/10. It's too late once you let it get to 5/10 or more. The definition of 3/10 was it is distracting even with mild medication.

Hi Thumper and welcome! I have been hearing a lot about Epsom salt baths being super therapeutic lately. Is the Dead Sea salt different or a variation? Sounds like it's worth a try thanks!!,
