"It's All In Your Head"

Jan 31, 2020 7:11 PM

Fibro flares at school suck. Having to take a test during one is even worse. I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday so I think that's why it was so bad today. The pain was so bad I cried during chemistry and people stared at me like I was crazy haha, the only person who didnt was a good friend of mine who sat next to me the whole time. But today during my second period a girl came up to me. My head was my desk and my eyes were closed because the lights hurt. Here's how the convo went:
"Woah, you dont look so good"
"I'm not feeling great, I'm in the middle of a pain flare up."
"What does that mean"
"I have a chronic illness called fibromyalgia"
"Youve looked terrible for a while, so you still arent better?"
"No, unfortunately it's chronic. Theres a chance I'll get it to go away since I'm young enough but I also might have it for life"
"No actually"
"Excuse me?"
"You're wrong"
"Care to elaborate?"
"Well it's in your head, so just dont think about it and you'll be fine. Honestly, it cant be that bad."
"Well I see why you would think that, but please don't make assumptions about another person's pain until you've felt it."
"Whatever. If you want people to believe you, pick something real. See ya."

I guess she had seen me in school before, I have no idea who she was. I swear, people can be sooooo aggravating. Just a little rant cause it was annoying.

Just remember, people fight battles you cant see. Until you've felt someone's pain, dont go judging it. You might have to experience it one day.
(I'm not in any way judging or accusing anybody, I dont think any of you would assume anything. Just a friend reminder:))

Hope everyone is okay. You've got this!

This is just her own defense mechanism "protecting" her from empathizing, she has her own trauma she's avoiding that's blocking her from having compassion for you.

Wow it’s absolutely mind boggling how she responded! Do think 🤔 about it! Crimeneezer! Walk a mile in my shoes ( yours) and see if she can’t think about it. Some people just can’t empathize. Sorry you had to deal with that.🙇🏼‍♀️

Don’t think about it. Sorry

RFF, I am so sorry she treated you that way. I think everyone here has gone through situations like that, sometimes many times. It's not easy no matter what they act like. Just remember, ignorance of your situation & their unwillingness to learn only makes a fool out of the person who is so unkind. Having my own issues build up over the past 12-15 years has made me more empathetic towards others that I witness struggling with pain or medical issues. But unless you go through something yourself you can't understand how difficult it is for others. Like Painwarrior said, that girl should walk a mile in your shoes (or any of ours). I had family members who couldn't understand, until they found theirselves facing their own new chronic pain issues. Sending you hugs love & prayers for strength!🙂💞❤🙏🌷
