Remembering medicine

Nov 20, 2016 7:03 PM

I'm in the worse flare due to the weather. It has gotten bitterly cold. I always forget how much pain I get in. My doctor increased my Lyrica from taking it 2 times a day to 3 times. (before the flare) I remembered the first week but I have forgotten yesterday and today. I don't take any other med 3 times daily. How can I remember to take the med in the afternoon? Or how do you remember to take yours?

I forget too. But I've set alarms in my phone for the times I'm supposed to take my meds.

;) we have a tie. Is there a bonus question?

But seriously Animal, many cell phones have alarm clocks you can set to go off when it's med time. There are also some apps that might help. Or time the taking of this medication around times when you are doing something. I take my meds that need to be taken 3 times at breakfast, mid afternoon and bedtime.

Breakfast and bedtime have just become part of my routine but I do use an alarm for the mid afternoon since I often get busy and forget.

I use my smart phone. There are so many good apps just find the one is suitable to you

As others have said using your smart phone is the best way to go. But I'd like to add something. I noticed at least one person said something like morning, afternoon, bedtime. Early on I noticed that especially with my painkillers when I did this I was groggy throughout the day and had increased pain at night. When I changed to taking my meds every 8 hours, every 6 hours for my Lyrica that I felt better. I was bunching up all my meds in a 10-12 period and not getting any for the rest of the 24 hour period. Try dividing the number of times you need to take your medicines into 24 then choosing the best times for you.

You are right. I am usually up at 7 So by 7:30 I have taken my morning pills. By afternoon I meant around 3:30. Bedtime for me isn't until around midnight. I should have included that in my post. My nighttime meds I take at around 11:30..

I get up 4-5 but don't take my meds until 7. One of them I have to take 1/2 to 1 hour before I eat. I go to bed at 9.Maybe I should take tramadol and Lyrica earlier. Then take afternoon pill at 2.

I set an alarm on my phone or watch

I'm on the same drug and have the same problem and even with alarms and apps I would still forget and wasn't sure if I'd taken my medication or not. I mentioned it to my GP and with a call to the prescription clerk at the doctors set up a Weekly Doset box. This makes it easier along with a reminder system on my phone to ensure I take my drugs and it's easier to see if I've missed.

Sometimes it also helps if you have a friend that keeps in close touch with you to remind you or check and make sure you have taken them. πŸ’•πŸ€—πŸͺπŸ˜‰πŸ˜œ
