I also have restless legs but I've never been told to take any pain meds!!!! The only Rx med I've really taken was Klonopin. Requip didn't work. I have had nights that I just couldn't go to sleep due to the creepy crawly feeling. It drove me nuts!!!. Those were the nights where I would go to my couch, lay on my back, kick up my legs in the air and move my legs like I was riding a bike. I would do this until I just couldn't go anymore. Basically, tire my legs out! Good luck.

Pain meds are effective for the pain as well as the restless legs. Klonipin is also helpful. There are meds Specific for restless legs that sometimes help. Talk to your doc. Lack of sleep exacerbates pain, restlessness, anxiety, & obviously fatigue. Explain just like u did here. Make your needs known. We all tend to downplay our symptoms so we don't sound like wimpy ass whiners. Make him/her listen. Keep a symptom log. List times, activity, symptoms, what, if anything, helps. What makes it worse. Don't hold back.

Kareberts, you are so right. I always try to downplay my pain.. To everyone, my family! My friends, coworkers... Everyone ..except my rheumatologist. Then I let her know everything that is going on. If she doesn't know how bad I really am feeling then she can't help me as much. You are your own best advocate!! My doc understands heightened pain syndrome, why the cold is so painful for me, the emotional part of it, etc. she listens to me and she really cares. If she didn't I would find a new doctor. Excellent idea about the symptom log. Write down every question you have for the doc because it's easy to forget all the things you wanted to say. Take really good care of yourselves (You deserve it!!). And have a safe and happy Thanksgiving but try not to overdo it!

I get pain in my legs the more I'm on them. And the pain seems to get much worse at night. My doctor says I'm having "nocturnal leg cramps" causing the tingling and neuropathy in the feet. I use a muscle relaxer, Chlozoxazone (aka: parafon forte) along with Voltaren gel. It helps enough to let me get some sleep.

I have restless legs. I do believe it is hereditary. My mother and sisters also deal with it. I found a person who was also plagued with restless legs and he also had it in his arms. He designed a product called the Leg Tamer. It is an oblong piece of neoprene with straps cut into it. It attaches with Velcro. You tighten the top strap snug enough to secure it to your leg. The remaining straps are velcroed loosley (about 2 finger widths space between it and your leg). This is the first thing I have found that actually works and takes care of the problem. The light touch of the straps on your leg seems to divert that tickle impulse and it stops. I told my doctor about it and he then went on to recommend some meds. I know it sounds like a scam, but it works for me.

Bruce Lynds is the name of the man who invented the Leg Tamer. If you have questions his number is 616-901-5384.

My legs don't hurt or tingle particularly, but I get the overwhelming urge to move, like the bicycle remark above. Sometimes my whole body. Drives me nuts! Sometimes I will clench every muscle in my body for a while to use up energy.

I have been on merapex it worked well and now comes in a generic. There have been nights I take real hot bathes that seems to help lol I have fallen asleep in tub. One time I was pacing at night exhausted but legs wouldn't let me sleep, I stubbed my little toe and broke it :( I have had it affect my arms. I always wonder if it's my back problems that's increases my else??
