RSD/CRPS and children

Feb 04, 2016 8:41 PM

Does anyone know if RSD/CRPS can be spread to your offspring if you had it while pregnant with your child? Or if you have it and got it after birth does that mean that I carry a gene that I could pass on to my child that makes them more susceptable to getting RSD/CRPS? Kinda like diabetes etc? I dont think it can but I would like to hear thoughts on this.

I've read articles saying it could be genetic. But there wasn't any conclusive studies so they really don't know how we get it or where it comes from. What does happen is a change in your genes when you're in chronic pain for a long time. But that's all that's I know is for sure.

Do you think I should have him tested for it? And if so what age do you think I should have him tested for it?

I wouldn't worry about it unless he shows signs of it. Usually there's a trigger moment that 'causes' the start of CRPS, but sometimes it just happens. Does he seem like he's in pain for no apparent reason?

I think it's genetic, but that's because my mom's identical requin and I have the same symptoms and dx,although at different ages

Its hard to tell hes only 6 months. I think I will just keep an eye on him for the next couple years and if I start seeing sign I will take him to get checked out

I do not believe you can give it to offspring because it starts after getting an injury there just doesn't seem to make sense to me that it could become genetic. But if you want him tested they would only be able to diagnose him of he had symptoms that show signs of crps
