School and chronic illness

Sep 26, 2014 9:16 AM

Hey there. I am currently a junior in high school and have been dealing with this chronic pain (and other things) for just about a year. Finally the other day my doctor suggested me going to a fibromyalgia clinic. For those who have been in the same situation, I was wondering if you happened to have any advice. The last year has been my worse, but hope has made things a bit better.. Anyhow, please and thank you.

Getting other opinions never hurts. That being said, you are a little young to be traveling down this path. Do you get any excercise? Have you been to a GOOD physical therapist who looks at body mechanics and muscle strength? Do you spend uninterrupted hours at your computer or pad? Do you carry a heavy load of books in your bag to school? Have you seen a rheumatologist yet? Please don't just let them prescribe you a drug regimen before you try the simple things first. Drugs can be a trap and mask an underlying simple solution. Get a ton of opinions, do research, and keep your parents involved in the loop. Descions you make now will affect the rest of your life. Thanks for posting and seeking the opinions of other who are in this trap of pain. Keep us updated, and take care!
