Seeing first orthopedist wednesday

Oct 17, 2015 2:02 PM

I'm really worried he won't be able to diagnose me and I'll just have to go through a bunch of tests. I don't want something serious to be wrong but I don't want to keep worrying about what could be wrong

Siecat, that's the tricky thing about orthopedic surgeons. Sometimes, they can be really good, and speaking from personal experience, other times not so much. It just depends on the luck of the draw. You just have to kind of be patient and kind of look through that rough exterior that most(but not all) orthos tend to show.

I loved the one I had as a kid but I'm too old to be seen by him so I'm hoping that since this guy is younger than most doctors that he'll be understanding since no other ortho would see me because I'm not 60

Siecat12, I know exactly what you mean. I'm afraid when I go to mine Monday he's going to just push me off on the pain doc, without looking for why my sciatica has flared up, my muscles lock down, and suddenly it's hurting my hips to walk. It's hard enough knowing something is causing the problem. But it's nerve wracking for docs to blow us off or blame the easiest thing they can think of (like Mayo saying my meds were causing my tremors)... NOT! ((Hugs)) & a prayer you'll get answers needed. 🙏🌼

Thanks! :) it's really frustrating my problem is I had perthes when I was nine so my hip never fully recovered and I'm more susceptible to getting osteoarthritis, which looking at the symptoms it sounds like what I have. I can't walk without a cane now. I hate going places, people stare because I "look healthy". Just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm able bodied

I'm 53 and gets the stares when I'm on my cane or riding a cart. But when they see my hand tremors it's like an "ah ha" moment in their eyes. I have osteoarthritis, so I know the difficulties. Hugs! 🙏🌼

Yeah it'll be hilarious for me tomorrow. It'll be the first time my grandma will see me with my cane and she has to use one too and always complains about being old. Guess I'm am honorary old lady

Siecat12, I learned something very poignant from a fellow pain member (Profiler) that he said whrn I was having a horrible time with overwhelming stress and anxiety. The thing is most of us want to be in control. We, however, really aren't in control of anything, only the way we handle the situation that is currently in front of us. The past is over, the future is a mystery to us all. The only thing we can think about (or try to) is the very moment we are in and how we handle what is happening in this moment. If we spend less time trying to figure out how we will handle something that is going to happen and concentrate on living in the moment, it will drastically reduce our stress levels. Now, that being said, I don't always do this myself. My head goes straight from A-Z on things that haven't come up yet and it makes me nuts and I end up sick. I'm working hard on trying to live in the now. Maybe this will help you to get through. Hang in there. Sending {{{{Hugs}}} and prayers your way. 🌻🙏🏻
