shingles pain, what is it?

Oct 09, 2016 11:23 PM

Went to the ER, for pain in my brain. Yes, I have one! First time I have ever visited the ER for pain. This doc says I might be getting shingles or one of my nerves is firing up since my surgery 2 years ago. Can someone explain what shingles pain is . Is it constant, burning, what have yall experienced? Help!

The pain symptoms for shingles are:
Pain, burning, numbness or tingling.
Sensitivity to touch.
A red rash that begins a few days after the pain.
Fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over.
Itching.
I haven't really experienced it myself but I've heard a lot about it. I really hope thing clear up quickly for you. Gentle hugs

I've never heard of it being in the brain, I have heard that it can be under the skin. When I break out with shingles it's excruciating and I have to take Epson Salt baths to sooth it even just a little. Shingles is a derivative of herpes and it is just as contagious. The disease loves moisture so do whatever you can to dry it out. I don't know how to help if it is actually in the brain except for pray so I will. God bless and good luck.

I know all the medical stuff I just want what everyone who has had it to tell me what the pain has felt like. Is it sharp and constant? Is it tender, does it radiate out from a spot or area? Help!

My Sister has Shingles right now. It burns like someone is putting out cigarettes on her skin and it radiates around the area that the rash broke out. I'm hoping I don't get it because I've been with her a lot before the rash popped out which is when it's most contagious

I have no rash just feels like I am being stabbed oor shot in my brain. But not constant..The ER doc assured my husband that you can't get it kissing, lol, but if you touch the fluid from a blister you could get chicken pox even with the immunizations. Since most of us at our age had teh immunizations as kids. I got the chicken poxs at age 2.

I got the chicken pox at age 18 and it was a horrendous case.. I was covered from head to toe and there wasn't ANYWHERE I didn't have them!! The only thing that relieved the itch was an oatmeal bath so I used to go in there and just stay in there as long as I could. Sometimes I would empty the tub and refil it with hot water while I was still in it. I was sick with almost 103 fever for 3 days before the rash came out and the glands at the bottom of your skull on the back of your head were so swollen and painful, you couldn't touch them. The doctor said to me when I went with my sister to the doctor that since I had such a bad case and since I'm immuno-compromised, if I get Shingles, it won't be pretty.. I hope you don't have it for very long and that you don't have any post herpetic neuralgia pain. Gentle {{{Hugs}}} coming your way. 💕😊🤗

I'm one of the lucky ones who gets shingles more than once!! The burning cigarette was a decent description add in a few bee sting that pop up out of nowhere ... Feel better really soon!

Thanks all! Finally got in to see my doc. It seems it was an allergy headache. She was so pissed that the ER doc did no blood work on what they drained me with, nor did he do a swab that would have gave him an idea if it was shingles. Tho she did say that swab was right 50% of the time. She is also now on . the hospital admin. And promise to review my visit with the ER staff. She then said that some people get shingles without having rash that breaks the skin.
