Sleep Apnea

Nov 04, 2014 11:42 AM

I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. From the doctor's description, it sounds like anyone who snores has it. They want to put me on a CPAP machine. Anyone have experience with this?

I've used a CPAP for several years it is not just snoring that gives a divinitive diagnoses?
A neck size of 18" or more, obesity, another what is called a week chin were your chin is behind the nose line?
These cause the heart to stop momentarily sometimes in excess of 500 times per night which causes the person to gag therefore you never actual go into a deep sleep and your always in a state of fatigue
The machine is amazing not only for you but also for your partner HOWEVER if you don't wear your mask say hello to heart failure

Do you mean that once you start on the machine you could have heart failure if you forget to use it?

I too use a CPAP/APAP. There is a lot of info about Sleep Apnea and support groups similar to this one. Sleep apnea is a serious condition which is why most insurances will cover it. Chronic fatigue is one of the symptoms which needs to be addressed. People lead normal active lives even with the use of a CPAP. The alternative is surgery to remove blockages to the airway so breathing is not interrupted. So far I have lived with the machine which works very well. Getting use to the mask is usually the hardest part. Just work with your specialist and let them know what your issues are with the equipment. By the way their are YouTube videos on CPAP machines also. --- fjh ---
