Sleepless nights...

Oct 09, 2014 3:17 AM

For about the past 2-3 weeks, I haven't been sleeping at night. Not very much anyway. I'll be hurting all night, and unable to fall asleep. I have scoliosis, which is very painful, and it affects my whole body. So when I lie down to go to bed, I can never find a comfortable position to lay in. I end up tossing and turning for hours with no relief. In the past 2 weeks, I probably have not gotten over 3 hours of solid sleep in a night. Then I'm exhausted and sore the next day, making it difficult to get up and do everything I need to do. Such as getting dressed, going to school, driving, walking/standing/sitting, even eating/drinking. So I rely heavily on caffeine to get me through. Once I get home later that day, I'm about to fall apart, so I take a nap. Then I'm wide awake at night, making it doubly hard to fall asleep. I don't have any muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, or anything like that either. The closest thing I have is a bottle of whiskey that I only bring out for special occasions. I won't lie, there has been 1 or 2 nights when I have taken a few sips so that I could sleep. I really don't want to get in the habit of doing that though. What should I do? Does anyone else have this problem? And if so, how do you cope?

there are good pain meds out there. try to go to your gp and tell him/here. he can help by providing a sleep aid or a systemic/transdermal pain releaver.

so sorry for your troubles. I have scoliosis as well. I also have spinal Spondylosis, degenerative joint/disc disease among other problems. I too have a horrible time sleeping. I have not slept in a bed in over 5 years. I get maybe 2-3 hours of scattered sleep a night. I'm always tired and carry a pain level of an 8 ON meds. go to a Pain Management Doctor and see if they can give you injections that may ease your pain. also certain low dose pain. meds and p/t, bio-feedback, TENS Therapy, etc. I wish you much luck. there are a lot of us in this pain boat, we need to support one another as best we can.
