So confused😳

Mar 05, 2015 11:32 AM

So first I want to say that all of the collective knowledge on this site amazes me.
Now my issue, well one of them, lol.
I sprained my thoracic and lumbar in a work related accident. This was over a year ago... I have had X-rays and mris and they show slight bulging discs in a few areas nothing big.
I am still able to pinpoint the exact spot on my spine at L-2 of tenderness and at times its a weird almost itch or healing feeling right at that point. Still daily I have deep muscle pain, discomfort, and burning.
There is so clearly something happening there but why isn't it showing on imaging?? The Costcochrronditis has calmed now, ther weird tingling , stinging, sore then itching skin has calmed also. The esophageal spasms have subsided. So now and for the last two days it's solely been my back.
Can some of you tell me why the images don't show anything but yet the pain is not better! Remember it's been a year on workers comp with a number of failed attempts at returning to work..
I don't understand it and I feel like there is more happening as far as the skin and such... Argh, confusion settling in. And the stress I guess has my memory turning to jello.

Hey Oregonhomestead, You just keep having a rough time. I wish I could help somehow. I do know from my multiple back injuries, that when nerves are involved they take a long time regerating towards healing. A physical therapist once explained that the nerves come out of the spine and twist & turn around, & even run through muscles, tendons & ligaments; hence prolonged muscle pain. I had Sciatica at the time running down my buttocks and thighs but other nearby muscles were hurting too. That may be what you're feeling. Also, nerves don't show up on xrays or most MRIs unless dye is used. They've never been able to see involved nerves on me until they did Myelograms. I had an auto accident in the 90's that caused the sciatica and it still bothers me from time to time. Remember that stress makes everything worse, so try to relax with a shower, bath, massage, heat & ice, etc. Praying for you! 🌼🙏

Thank You, I guess I am searching and pleading to find concrete answers. I hope I'm not pestering y'all. Should I ask the doc about a myelogram? Still not sure about what the bone scan thing is one doc talked about. Plus were at the point with the comp claim that they are wanting to be done with me. I don't get the nerve pain shooting into my legs. I do get deep aching in my butt cheeks and right above them.

No, you are not pestering us. Yes, I get the same thing from time to time but unlike yourself, I do have visible injury and they know where it is coming from. I would Go with FlappysLady on this one and ask about a myelogram.

Oregon, remember that nerves do not show up on MRI or any other scans. The bulging discs are probably pressing on the nerve or nerves in the area causing the pain. I know what you mean bout the itching thing... I have horrible, deep pain from my cervical through lumbar spine for multiple reasons. I get this intense itching between my shoulder blades that is not on the surface of the skin. If I ask someone to scratch, they have to start gently because of the RSD and then, when they hit the right spot, they have to scratch hard to make it stop.. Sometimes the skin feels numb and then the itch comes back or continues to itch while it's being scratched. It's a very strange phenomenon.

Okay, I have an appt on the 13th... Friiidaaay... And will ask my occupational doc Thank you

No problem, Oregon... Best of luck!! Keep me posted as to how it goes.

Yes my skin on my entire back went from tingling for 3-4 days to stinging to sore to itching on the surface. But since the skin stuff has resolved it's the internal strange feeling right in the spot in the spine. It's hard to describe that to the doc... He looks at me like I have a third eye. Love him but I think it truly baffles him when I say it's like a healing itch inside right at the Injury point on my spine.

I know, people look at me like I have two heads when I say that it's an "inside" itch. They just can't seem to understand the concept. Don't worry, Oregon, you're not alone, I understand!! 😊

Hi guys went to my primary Dr today. I tried to talk to him about all the different symptoms that I have been having and pain and he blew me off said talk to your neurologist when you go on the 18th. Y'all have been talking about itching on your backs, I have been having some I can't remember if it was before I started wearing Fentonyl patches or not. I think it was because my back itches across my shoulders and under my shoulder blades it's unreal nearly drives me crazy. My skin is so sensitive to touch but like you Always it's a under the skin itch.I was so agravated at my Dr.

I'm looking into seeing an Internal Medicine Doc. I'm never going back to my pcp of 30 years.

Mar 06, 2015 6:33 AM

Oregonhomestead, My PCP is an internal med doc. I just think he's been in so long that he's closed his mind to new things and he really doesn't listen or care.

Mar 06, 2015 6:55 AM

Weenie, all opoids cause itching and it can get very severe!!! If your able take a Benadryl or Zyrtec. It won't necessarily cure it but it will help. I know I have that issue!

Mar 06, 2015 6:58 AM

Homestead, you're not a problem so get that right out of your head! Tissues and muscle don't show well on MRI. Also scar tissue. Nerve regeneration can cause itching/stinging/burning also. I'll pray that the sensations you're feeling mean healing is happening!! I'm glad other issues for you seem to be resolving!!

Mar 06, 2015 7:13 AM

Amen & ditto on the prayer!🌼🙏
