Spondylitis and scoliosis

Oct 19, 2017 3:28 AM

I would very much like to talk or chat to anybody on here who is suffering from scoliosis and spondylitis. You don’t get to see or talk to very many people suffering the same conditions as me. So I’ll be grateful if any of you could leave me a message or just answer this question. Thank you

Hello! I was born with lordosis scoliosis. (Inward lumbar curvature). At age 17 I was diagnosed with spondylosis/spondylitis. I am now 23 years old. Scoliosis is some what common, however no one really has the same type or symptoms. For example, I’ve never met someone with the same type of scoliosis as mine. However it is good to connect and share stories regardless.

@ Valdeen My goodness you were young being diagnosed with that and I Assume that you are in the USA. I live in the UK and I am considerably older than you are but I have always had back problems for most of my adult life but it was only when I was in my 40s that they diagnosed me with the spondylitis and scoliosis. In 2005 I had my first surgery which went very well but then about 18 months later I started experiencing a lot more pain and being virtually unable to walk. Saw my specialist and he said that he would have to take out the original metalwork and replace it right up my back doing seven levels. To say this was quite a shock would be an understatement bearing in mind that by this time I was only 52. Not quite what I had planned for my life I had to give up work in my 40s another plan but I didn’t want to do I had to give up running exercising in the gym all that stuff. When the operation was done which by the way was horrendous. I thought life would settle down and it would be normal. But nothing in my life is normal. And by 2009 I was having my next operation and again in 2012 , 2013 and now my last one in June this year. In between all these years I’ve had both knees partly replaced. If they carry on like this I will be completely full of metal. My children will learn fortune selling all the titanium in my body. 😂
So from my perspective I can understand exactly how you feel. Sorry this is been such a long message. Feel free to talk whenever you want.

@ Dilapidated4Now. Would have sent you a message but apparently you are using an older version of this app and cannot be sent a message. But if you read below you will see how my life is playing out. And I’m in the UK.
