Stomach Pain IBS

Sep 08, 2015 4:16 PM

I have been suffering with stomach pain all my life but it has gotten bad again recently. Have almost constant abdominal pain. My GI put me on align and activa. Said that I'm out of sorts. Also gave my a prescription for something but of course the insurance won't cover it. I find it hard to believe that IBS and begin out sorts could cause this much pain. I'm surprised she didn't do any testing. I'm very bloated and very gasy. Anyone have any suggestions for pain relief?

Hi sorry to hear you're struggling so much, I have IBS but I usually take buscopan for it which I can get over the counter here in the UK, not sure about over there.
Is it possible that you can push for tests to be done? Xx

I take Dexilant and add Bentyl when the cramping and pain are really bad.

Firemustang, I have IBS and fluctuate from constipation and diarrhea. Because of new anemia I was put on 150mg iron. Talk about painful constipation! I can feel my stool move through my intestinal tract and the cramps and sharp pains are so bad I almost double over. I'm trying to drink lots of water and electrolyte fluids. The only time my ibs caused this type pain is when I'm constipated. My GI doc has me on Linzess and donnatal when I needed it. I try to walk more because mobility helps the intestinal tract. I wish I knew more to help you. 🙏🌼

FlappysLady81, I used to take Zelnorm until they took it off the market. It was the only thing I ever found to make my stomach even remotely normal. It seriously was like a miracle drug for me. I have ibs with alternating constipconstipation and diarrhea as well. i heard there was a new drug, Linzess, and it is similar. Have you found it to be helpful?

Aprilb, yes the Linzess has helped a lot. Unfortunately they put me on iron for anemia and that's complicated things. I'm having to drink Gatorade and extra water, as if my avg 115-130 oz of water wasn't enough to float a boat! Lol 🚢 I'm trying to come off processed sugars because the GI doc said that can affect the IBS. 🙏🌼

Leolion66, I hear you on that. A while back (a few months) I was so backed up due I'm pretty sure was due to dehydration because my meds don't constipate me. At any rate, I was so backed up I didn't go for 5 days!! When I finally did, it was so big and wide, I couldn't push it out!! I thought it was going to be an embarrassing trip to the ER. Well, after almost 40 minutes of struggle, I finally went. Thank God it hasn't happened since. I hope the meds they gave you and Flappsy work and help you not to be painfully backed up any more! 🙏🏻🌻

AlwayZ & Leolion, been there before too. For times like that I keep the liquid baby lax enemas on hand. It's just enough to stimulate and lubricate without causing a fissure/tear, and get things moving.

I have been to the ER but because it was backing up in my stomach, worsening my GERD. And having had an Ileus before I wasn't taking another chance of getting intubated! I can't throw up now because of the intubation, but I literally had foul liquid stool coming out of the tubes they put in my stomach. They kept me on IV and liquids for 3 days before my intestines relaxed and untwisted so my stool would pass normally. Horrible experience vomiting $@#+💩!! 🙏🌼

OMG, that's an absolute nightmare!! Here I was worried about going to the ER with half a giant sequoia hanging out of my ass... LOL!! (Sorry, it just came out). Anyway, I normally don't have that issue and as long as I remember my synthroid to keep my metabolism going, I usually don't back up. My younger sister has Crohn's disease and her rectum is only the size of a number 2 pencil and they have to manually break up the scar tissue to help open her a bit to help her go. I hate potty issues and my heart goes out to all of you who have them.

Flappsy, I'm glad I gave you the laugh for the day.. I was telling my Mother and Father about a blind and deaf puppy that was adopted by a celebrity. I said to them, it's so quiet, if you talk to it, it won't here you. My Father says, it's ok, they could use sign language. I said, no, the pup is blind.. At which time my Mother chimes in and says it'll read your lips! I
Said (laughing...hard) what don't you get about it being BLIND!! We were laughing so hard I peed myself because I could t get to the bathroom in time.. LMAO..Damn that felt good???) I'm still Giggling while I'm typing. (You know, I'm so much fun, I should hang out with myself.. LOL!!! 😜😉😁
