Hey I know this is kinda strange but I need some advice. Ever since I was little I have had this black thing in my belly button, (I know it sounds gross). I have always believed that it has been some sort a umbilical cord leftover. I am 14 and still have it and was wondering if anyone knew what it could be.
If I touch it, it makes the whole inside oft stomach feel weird. I've never really been able to do anything to in. It sits right in the middle of my belly button and is stuck sticking out. It looks quite disturbing and sort of like a seed.
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas to what it could be thanks x
Zam133, it may be what is called an umbolith. Or otherwise known as an umbilical stone if you will. Sometimes they can just be taken with a tweezer and pulled out and other times not. If yours is "stuck" and when you touch it, it makes the inside of your belly feel funny, I would go to a dermatologist and have it checked. It may be something that needs to be biopsied and checked out for something more. If you're not sure, please don't pick at it or try to pull it off, that's not what I'm saying at all. Also, Just FYI, there are just some that happen from not properly cleaning out your belly button and sweat, oils and dead skin gather there and eventually become hardened like a blackhead, I have seen them but not many. I would definitely just make an appointment with a dermatologist and have it looked at. I hope this is helpful.
Zam133, AlwayZ gave great advice. A dermatologist is the first place to start.
Just an FYI, when I had my massive abdominal surgery in 2010, they had to remove a small hernia at the navel. Along with all the other necessary surgical interventions they had no choice but to close my navel completely. While it was healing I had to continue to clean it with a qtip and alcohol. I was cut in an upside down T so my abdomen looks horrible (2nd time cut that way). While it healed closed there was one spot that would get fuzz from my clothing. My doctor told me it was important to keep it cleaned out until it healed.
It's likely what AlwayZ said, something to do with the umbilical cord. But another possibility is an internal AVM, arteriovenous malformation, from the umbilical cord. It's basically engorged veins internally. That could also explain why you feel movement in your tummy when you touch it. Like AlwayZ said don't mess with it. Let your primary doctor or a dermatologist look at it. Praying it's easily remedied. 🙏🌼
I'm not meaning to scare but my dad was bleeding internally for months. They had him swallow a camera that showed the bleeding was coming from his intestines. When he got to mayo they did an endoscopy and colonoscopy to locate the 4 sites. All four were AVM's. They had to cauterize them and he's doing fine now. One of my doctors said my pelvic congestion veins is in the AVM category. I just know a little something about it and wouldn't want it to bleed if it is, but I hope and pray Zam's is what AlwayZ said. 🙏🌼
