Stress can cause pain

Feb 12, 2016 6:01 PM

So, if anyone is under stress you are more likely to be in more pain.I found that out last night when I went through a book!

My Dr is exploring whether my pain is directly related to the stress I'm under.

Feb 12, 2016 6:26 PM

I can say for certain it does. Stress caused 2 panic attacks a few weeks ago and i couldn't breathe. So scary! It makes me sick and brings on a flare. :(

Horsesnuggler12, I have to say that if I am extremely stressed and on overload, I will feel more pain. Your bodies response to stress is hard on your body in the best of circumstances and when you are already dealing with pain, it just exacerbates it. Seems like you can't win sometimes (but things always get better.. And then worse and better again). It sure is a roller coaster ride and not an easy journey but you do adjust and you also have all of us to lean on. {{{Hugs}}} 💕🙏🏻🌻

Something that always helps me with stress pain (mine is usually from panic attacks) is keeping my body in a way that the part that is in the most pain is the lowest. For me that's usually mu chest so I try and keep my legs and no hips and above my chest. I have no idea why this helps but it does quite a bit.

Sometimes the only time I'm comfortable is lying on my side. Even middle of the day I just have to lay down. Praying you can sleep tonight.

Oh yes, stress is the enemy.

I use to go to a doctor and I would know I had an infection. I saw white spots on my throat and I was running a 101 fever. He looked at me and asked if I was under stress. He always asked that question when I went to him. I asked him, I said I am so obviously sick, why would you ask me that? He told me that when you are under stress your immune system doesn't work as well so you get sick and you experience pain more. I was 14 years old so of course, I thought he was full of crap but I believe it today.

Yes I believe this is very true for me. I am 47. Diagnosis of depression in teen years. I remember being 4/5 being sad. I later thought that it was genetic. Now I am thinking yes, but increasing chances of problems with my health now. Because of abuse in my childhood with no proper support and coping skills through my childhood. My mother is a drinker and I think she drank through her pregnancies. My dad was very abusive. I don't remember a lot about life. May be its best that way.
So this continued stress has lead to post traumatic stress disorder. With this comes many common stress related problems like major depression, anxiety, addiction, hallucinations, paranoia, suicidal issues, anger, sadness, loneliness, problems with pain, fibro, chronic pain, tmj, headaches, migraines, IBS?, pelvic pain, back issues, challenges with therapies, pain treatments/control, challenges with all types of medications, sensitivities to medications.
Through this I have screwed up lots and learnt lots. I really need to have balance. I am trying to figure this out.
I am thankful for the people who I have crossed paths with through this journey. I am thankful for this community on line. My kid who I need to continue to live for. To help show that I am not giving up on her, to be her Mum and advocate for her, even when I no longer want to fight my challenges. To show her that this is life, we don't have a white picket fence, but we are the new norm. Celebrate successes small or large. Accept or acknowledge differences. Learn from experiences. Be thankful and share gratitude. Share stress reducing practices. Ask for help and clarify things when we don't understand.

Being in pain all the time, fighting one flare or another, coarsely jumping from one health problem to another. Who's stressed? Me, and everyone here most likely. Therefore, health problems= stressed = more problems... A vicious cycle that seems to be never ending! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Feb 15, 2016 6:11 PM

Yes! I have a bunch of stress that was originally put on my dad's shoulders that usually goes straight to me (I worry, he doesn't...) so I'm backsliding in a flare the last month or so, got what feels like a cold, finally forming in my chest. I mostly feel like crying and curling up in a little ball, but it's not just the pain, is fear.

Awww, Ferretbandit, I'm so sorry. Hugs!!! I newsstand because I'm relapsing or flaring again; been coughing all at today (dry racking cough), and sjogrens mouth blisters again. I hope you can get to feeling better soon! 🙂💕🙏🌼
