While checking in for an exam, I told the nurse my height hadn't been measured in years. When she told me I was an inch and a half shorter, I nearly burst into tears! I'm already standing in a hole, I can't afford to lose more height! !!!! And when I had seen the Neuro PA the day before, he had a neck xray done, and found bone spurs on every cervical vertebrae as well as some discs going away. At least now I know why my hands always tingle and why I'm so "clumsy ". But it means another spinal surgery, if not 2 at the same time. Which scares the pants off me.
Princess, I am sorry to hear that. I understand your distress. I am only 46 and on my last visit they said I was an inch shorter. Sorry for your distress. I hope you don't need spinal surgery. That sounds even more painful.
The fusion is going to happen, my lumbar area is bone on bone. And the way my hands and feet tingle, the surgery is needed before more nerve damage happens. I've just heard so many horror stories about spinal surgeries. I just need to remember that surgical techniques are always improving, and the entire surgical group is fantastic.
PrincessChaos, I'm in the same boat with you, shorter with my spine collapsing & bone spurs, facet stenosis, and neuropathies. I've had 2 neck surgeries and the address above & below are collapsing. They refuse to do surgery unless my nerves her impinged between the discs because of the very high risk of paralyzation. My thoracic to lumbosacral is also collapsing, but I'm trying to hold PDF as long as I can. Good luck & Good bless with a very good outcome from surgery. Hugs & prayers! 🙂💕🙏🌼
I also have entire spine issues and shrinking. Like flappy my worst is thorasic and the doc told me it could cause paralization or death. I was 5'6 then down to 5'4 and a half. Through spine strengthen exercises and constant posture work I am back up to 5'5 and a half.
The new norm for back surgery is to do nothing until they absolutely have to. If you have concerns I would suggest a second opinion, if nothing else to help put your mind at ease.
I was 5f 8in I suspect with all the spinal problems C,T and L spinal sections and especially spinal cord injury in C and T spine leaving me quad I'm probably a couple inches shorter now, next time I'm out flat I'll get someone to measure me, as I know I gave lost height also.
