Suggestions for upper respiratory please!

Jan 17, 2020 8:39 AM

I've been sick with bronchitis and asthma attacks since last week, and now it's gone into a sinus infection & congestion, & complete laryngitis too. I feel weak like I have the flu but, unlike my nephew, brother & husband, I've had no chills or fever or achy body; just drained tired.

I'm taking pseudoephedrine to help make it drain, Mucinex expectorant, doxycycline antibiotic, and flushing my sinuses with both NeilMed or Simply Saline solutions several times a day. I'm eating oranges & taking extra vitamin C, plus my sister has me taking OTC meds, Sambucol Elderberry gummies & Oscillocillinum. I'm feeling miserable & hubby wanted me to go to the urgent Care again, but I know my doctor is going to say rest rest rest....I'm doing that. I'm also drinking lemon-ginger hot tea with honey. My head feels like a water balloon from the meds & congestion.

Any homeopathic suggestions??? 🀧😷

I'm sorry you're so sick. That certainly is not something you need. You're doing everything I know to do. You could gargle with warm salt water to help throat. I hope you are feeling better soon.

How about garlic? Eat plenty of garlic, or take some supplements. It's great for respiratory infection.
Hope you feel better asap xx

Thanks both of you! I started gargling tonight after reading this so maybe that will help. As for the garlic, I like in my pasta but dont feel much like eating that right now. I'll get my hubby to get some of the supplements to take. My hubby called my pcp and he called in a 5 day prednisone dose plus azithromycin antibiotic (said urgent care put me on the wrong one). I hope it helps! My surgeons office moved my preop out a week to give me more time to recover. But if I'm not well by then it's likely surgery will be delayed. 🀧☹ Hugs love & prayers everyone has a good weekend πŸ’žβ€πŸ™πŸŒ·

So sorry to hear that your so sick. The only thing I noticed was the pseudoEphedrine: Side Effects. Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth/nose/throat, headache, upset stomach, constipation, or trouble sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

I remembered drowsiness do you might be feeling tired partly from your med and I believe from your run down condition. You really do need to rest FlappysLady. Your in no condition for ANY surgery. Please I’m telling you as a friend you can’t have any surgery until you are strong enough. Your condition is to weak to consider any surgery would be bad for you now. I’m saying this as your friend but also as a retired nurse
(medical/ surgical nurse) sending you πŸ€— and hopes that your new antibiotic kicks in and your feeling better soon.πŸ¦‹πŸ’•πŸŒΊ

Also forgot, unless you have limits on your fluid intake, then drink drink drink. It will thin out your mucus and keeps you hydrated. A lot of times people get put in the hospital because they become dehydrated and weak. Take care my friend and i hope your feeling better soon.

FlappysLady81, Don't think I'm crazy but.... rub vick's on the bottom of your feet and put on warm socks and get in bed!

Lol MySistersKeeper, I laughed when my hubby told me that...after I kept him awake all night from coughing. That stuff really works, no joke! I've used it every night for 3 nights now.

Painwarrior, I have to keep my surgeon's nurse informed and she said when I go for hospital preop & pulmonary preop, if either shows any sign of things not quite right they will have to reschedule. The pulmonary doc will do a long stay and a pulmonary function test to clear me for surgery. I slept the best last night since my sister died the 3rd, nearly 8 hours straight. And I only coughed a few times. I'm using NeilMed sinus flush system and it's really keeping my sinuses from getting clogged, plus it's all clear now. I told my hubby if the next 2 days I cough or blow clear mucus I'm going to start taking an antihistamine to dry it up. Or would that be too soon? My pcp switched me from 4 more days of doxycycline to 3 days of Azithromycin antibiotic plus 5 days of prednisone; I will finish both by Wednesday. Although I don't feel great today, it's my best day yet; better appetite, better sleep last night & less "exhausted" tired. I'm drinking 4-5, 30-oz cups of water (thank you sjogrens thirst) so I'm staying hydrated. I have most of this week to continue resting before I have appointments that I rescheduled from last week. If there's one upside to this, I haven't noticed as much fibromyalgia and sjogrens pain, even with the cold front that swung down. Hugs love & prayers to all, and everyone in the really nasty cold weather areas stay safe & warm!πŸ™‚πŸ’žβ€πŸ™πŸŒ·

Yes we got snow ice sleet and rain! Lovely 😊 At least You’ve had less physical pain. Sounds like your beginning to come around. I’d make sure your mucus is clear for a couple days first. Any yellow/green nasal mucous usually a sign of sinusitis returning. Plus keep an eye on your temperature. Your doing fine. Slow but sure right? Take care 🌺🌸 πŸ¦‹
