Thank you all so much! I'm only on here to update, not even attempting to read all posts. I was discharged yesterday morning and felt fairly good until early evening. I didn't sleep at the hospital much, but last night was awful. I tried sleeping in the bed on a wedge pillow and several other pillows, but I couldn't get comfortable to rest.

The doc did the anterior cervical disc fusion from the left side of my neck. He had to pull the trachea out of the way, which has caused a lot of pain and swelling, making it very hard to swallow. Needless to say I'm on a liquid diet until I can swallow again. He told my hubby that when he took the old plate and screws out, the bone tried to bleed so they filled the holes with wax. He also cleared out a lot of bone spurs from around the spinal canal. He said removing the bone spurs should help a lot to prevent future issues.

Today is the first day I've not had a headache in over 3+ weeks. Unfortunately I'm itching badly and I'm not sure if it's the padding in the neck brace or not. I'm having severe neck/shoulder pain, along with a very tender clavicle & sporadic neuropathies. He put me on 3-day Fentanyl patches, and I can use the hydrocodone syrup from stomach surgery for breakthrough pain. I can't drive at all, not lift my hands above my shoulders, so I'm wearing my hubby's button up shirts & polo's. That about sums it up. I do not remember hurting this bad with my last neck surgeries, but I also didn't have fibromyalgia and I was in better general health. It's taken me multiple attempts to post this because the typing motion pulls on the back of my shoulders, where I'm already hurting from surgery. Just going to continue to rest, and I'll catch up on posts as I am able. Hugs love & prayers for all, and welcome to any newcomers I miss while offline! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈ

Y'all are so funny, making me laugh! It hurts my throat to swallow or laugh. But I managed to finally see the back of my swollen throat and guess what I found?

Aug 12, 2016 7:58 AM

What did u find pretty lady?
πŸ€—Hugs n kisses 😚

Oops...didn't mean to hit post. Lol. Thrush!! It always flares it's ugly head after procedures with intubation. I can't understand why it comes back every time. But the rheumy doc said it goes along with sjogrens. Anyway, I thought I was going to choke on a Tylenol caplet yesterday that tried to lodge in my windpipe. I managed to get it up but told my hubby no more large or even medium pills until I can swallow.

He made me a smoothie for b'fast and I had to get him to dilute it with cranberry juice. My throat is worse than when I had the stomach surgery, way worse. But I didn't need any break through meds yesterday, so my pain is manageable (5-7), so that's a plus. And I realized yesterday that this shoulder/upper back pain is the same pain I had following my neck surgery in '95. It took nearly a year to regain some strength and not have shoulder pain. I don't know that I can afford another years time recuperating at my age? πŸ‘΅Lol

My poor pup, Bear, doesn't understand what's going on with me. He's thinking, "Why's mommy walking with that thing (walker), where I can't walk beside her?" And, "Why is mommy blocking me from her lap with that pillow? I'll just jump on top of it! Haha!" πŸ• "Mommy's not chasing me or my toys. She's no fun anymore!". No seriously, Bear is sulking and not eating because of these changes. He's use to being the center of attention, which he isn't right now. Poor baby! 😞

I get my first full shower today, yay! I've always showered daily, unless I was sick-sick-sick, ever since junior high school. And now I've gone since Monday without a real shower and hair washing. Ick!! I'm so excited because I've been sweating all week, hot flashes type of sweating. I'm positive I don't have fever. And my neighbor/friend went out and bought me 4 ladies button up tops so i don't have to wear my hubby's. That was so sweet of her!! I'm going to put one on today.

Hugs love & prayers everyone has a good Friday, and a good weekend! Hopefully I'll get caught up with all the posts by Sunday. Love y'all bunches!!! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈπŸ’

Flappsy, you are absolutely hysterical and one tough lady!! If you think pain levels of 5-7 is managable then you're a better woman than I.
Sorry to hear about your throat and choking that sounds horrible!! Next time crush it and take it with apple sauce.
Always nice to have that first shower. I had three myself yesterday as I went for my mammogram. They said no deodorant or lotion (yeah right in 100 degree weather) and I had put it on, had to go back in and wash it off. After the mammo they did a sonogram so I had all that goop on my boobies and had to go home and get in the shower again to de slime myself.. LMAO!! Anyway, no breast cancer I have fibrous dense masses that are just fine. Found one in my left that I didn't know was there.
Here's hoping things get better fast. Glad you're on the mend my friend. Sending bunches of love and really careful and gentle {{{Hugs}}} along with it.πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š

Lulabel, bear would probably get in with me if it's let him, just to be at my feet! Lol

AlwayZ, I didn't think about crushing my tablets. But I tried jello and my throat is just too swollen. My hubby is concerned it may be permanent, but I reminded him I'm only on day 5. πŸ˜‰ He's such a worry wart! Lol. I've had to learn to deal with pain up to a level 8, due to all my med allergies.

But I am starting to have finger neuropathies (2 days so far), the last three on both hands, randomly & intermittently. It is an immediate 9-10, but like i said it comes and goes. I may try an extra gabapentin tomorrow if it gets worse. It's probably due to swelling around the nerves. My biggest concern is the itching, which I'm scratching for, causing sores. I'm using the antibiotic ointment and itching ointment, and trying to keep from scratching. I did place some cotton hankies between my chest/neck and the foam padding on the neck brace. It's helped some.

I'm so glad your mammogram was alright!! πŸ™. See, you worried for nothing. Now you have one less thing to worry about. πŸ‘ And I hate the ultrasound goop! No matter how hard I try to wipe clean, I always need a shower at home.

I didn't manage to read many other posts, as holding my arms out & up is very tiring & painful, quickly. I hope to catch up more tomorrow. Hugs love & prayers for a good night for everyone (or day to those on the other side of our world) πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈ

Flappsy, I am so very happy that you are home recuperating. I have dealt with pain levels like that as well and I guess if you can call it "lucky" that I'm not allergic, it's good I can take something to take the edge off. You really are a remarkable person to have such s dynamite attitude. That's really half the battle, keeping a positive outlook and laughing. Makes me feel better for sure. Now we're lucky to have Lulabel to brighten our days. - she's such a hoot and a wonderful addition to our community family. Continued love, prayers and gentle {{{{Hugs}}}} my secret "Twin". πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š
