Surgery Tomorrow

May 25, 2016 8:27 PM

I report to the hospital at 1:00 pm tomorrow for the hiatal hernia repair & fundoplication. For some reason I'm not nervous at all, but my hubby is. But of all things to hit my IBS-C is awful, along with the GERD. I've taken stool softeners and miralax and other stuff... No go! 🙊 If no relief by morning I'll have to do an enema. Ugh! 😰. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers, and especially my hubby! I think he's nervous because he's lost so many friends over the last 12 months that losing me scares him. Hugs & prayers everyone has an enjoyable & safe holiday weekend (USA peeps)! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Hi FlappysLady,
I wish you well for today's surgery and recovery. You are in my thoughts. Sending you a gentle warm hug of hope and care.
Thank you for being so awesome.

Than you all so very much! I'm so glad to have made so many new friends, even if we do all suffer chronic pain. I'll update when I can, but expecting to be a 24 hr same day surgery. I did get some relief from constipation! No one should go into surgery backed up, due to the sluggish effects from sedation. But for those of us with dmotility issues, it's a bad risk! Thank you all again. TTY soon I hope. Hugs & prayers! .🙂💕🙏🌼

Good luck FlappysLady81 if you need anything please call me. Hernia repair is not an easy surgery, I have been there and done that one. Take care my friend.

I will apologize now if I misspell or misspeak something. I was heavily sedated in prep with 300mg gabapentin, which for me is a very high dose. They almost gave me 600 mg... So glad they listened that I'm super sensitive to meds! Although they didn't take me until almost 2:30 pm & it took 2 hours, I managed to stay pretty calm, amidst the napping. Lol. We got to leave for home at 6:45 pm. I was still do sedated from the Dilaudid or Demerol they have during surgery (not sure which it was), I was very nauseous and if I opened my eyes everything was spinning. 😵I rode home with my eyes closed. It all started wearing off around 9 pm, but I just took 1 tbsp of the hydrocodone and it's causing the symptoms again so I'm in bed. He wrote 1-2 tbsp but I wasn't sure I wanted to take 2, not knowing how my body would react. I'm in pain, mostly from the gas bloat, but occasionally I feel pain in the esophagus-stomach area. Doc told my hubby the hiatal hernia was much larger than they anticipated or even thought one would be, so it took longer to do what needed doing. I have 2 real thing scars, 2 medium, and one 2" scar. He also told my hubby I'm full of internal adhesions & scar tissue, another reason it took longer. But I'm so blessed they didn't have to open me up to do it all. The anaesthesiologist took special care intubation me due to the disc pressing the spinal cord. But my head, neck, & back/tops of shoulders hurt, so I'm wondering if they had met in an awkward position. Of course it could be the gas I guess. Funny thing is that I'm not even hungry, even thought i ate supper last night at 6:30, and all I've had this evening (all day) is a cup of chicken broth, 5.5 oz Atkins French vanilla shake & water. Another blessing I think! Anyway, I my surgery went very well and now I'm planning for the recuperation to be as good also. Hugs & prayers everyone has a safe & restful night! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Cheers to you FlappysLady and to a good recovery! Have a good rest. Gentle hug, Beets

I'm so glad the surgery went as well as can be! Gabapentin 300mg is not much; I am very glad they listened to you! Take care and keep us updated!

You sound just great. So happy it all went well.

May 27, 2016 3:50 AM

I'm wide awake, since 3:30 am, even after taking Hydrocodone. Itching with crawly tingly skin. Wondering if it's the Betadine from chest to knees (prepped for opening me up I guess), or the Hydrocodone? I'm in no pain and have no nausea either. I'm also still not hungry. Oh well, at least I'm catching up on posts. Hoping everyone else is sleeping better than me. Hugs & prayers for all! 🙂💕🙏🌼

May 27, 2016 3:51 AM

Or could it be from the little round nausea patch they put behind my ear? I can't remember the name of it.

May 27, 2016 5:45 AM

I'm glad your surgery went well! Hope you feel better

May 27, 2016 4:19 PM

Flappys, that sounds like scopolomine, and yes I had similar symptoms with it back in October. Hugs and prayers

May 27, 2016 5:45 PM

I think it was the Hydrocodone because I've not taken it all day and I've been itch free. But my pain is more noticeable. I may have to take it at bedtime. And I think it is a scopolamine patch behind my ear. I'm beginning to have a very dry sore throat. They have a watch like band on my wrist that works like a tens unit, called Reletex, which blocks signals from nerves that cause nausea, plus the scopolamine patch. I've noticed the change in the size of my stomach (smaller), because I can't drink as much liquid as quickly as I did before. Drinking soup broth, I can barely drink a cupful. I'm destined for improved health without GERD & Barrett's esophagus, and weight loss will just be another blessing! Hugs, love, & prayers to all! 🙂💕🙏🌼

So glad to know you are okay flappyslady. I've been away since my daughter got liver failure from a med for pcos and an ulcer ++. Came back to find you being brave and upbeat throughout your hernia surgery. You're an inspiration.

May 28, 2016 5:44 PM

Thanks Autoimmune! I hope your daughter is doing much better. Is she going to be alright? Today I've had more discomfort in the mid abdomen region, along with extra stiffness all over. But I'm not taking the Hydrocodone med, and I've only had one dose of Tylenol. The gas bloat is the worst today too. After showing I've still got red tiny spots everywhere the Betadine was put. All in all, I was scared to death about this surgery, but now I can't even understand where that fear came from. As many surgeries as I've had, this one has been a breeze in comparison! I get to add some soft foods tomorrow if my throat allows me to swallow; it's pretty sore today. Of course they say the third days is the worst for a reason. Lol I'll be praying your daughter recovers without any bad consequences! Hugs & prayers for you too! 🙂💕🙏🌼
