Swollen & Discolored Legs, Feet & Hands

Jul 24, 2015 8:14 AM

I had my 6 month cardio check up. My ekg had not changed since January so the doc took me off the heart med. Yay, one less med to keep up with! But looking at my legs that were blotchy red, he asked if I was still swelling. I told him yes, but when active more than 15-20 minutes both legs swell and get painful, the right twice it's size. I also told him I have noticed the colors of red, blue, and purple in my legs, feet, and hands. He said I need to be seen in the vein clinic. I then asked if the veins being closed off in my pelvis (11 coils for PCS- pelvic congestion syndrome) could have affected my legs and feet. He said yes, and they may have to go back in for more. He said if veins are he cause and get corrected then I should get to where I can walk after treatment.

I'm not so sure I believe that. If the previous blocking off caused problems, won't it happen again if they do more? Frustrating and depressing, thinking the PCS embolization was helping, only to find out may have caused other issue requires more procedure (s).

Maybe our grandparents were right to avoid doctors. They had the pain but got very little care, and their lives weren't as bad as ours. My grandfather had a heart attack just before he turned 90. They told him he needed bypass but because they would have had to do the old fashioned (rib breaking) cut, he told them no. So they said he needed to stop eating his sausage & egg daily and change his diet altogether. His reply, "Why? What's it going to do, kill me? I'm 90 years old and I'll eat what I want to!" Maybe he had a point. I need a good laugh, even though it won't change anything. Just frustrated & down today... πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Oh Flappsy, it really sucks when you take meds for something and it ends up messing up something else. It can be very frustrating. My Godfather is 98 years old and lives across the street. He has COPD and takes Spireva every day to help him breathe. When he uses it, it's a pill that you out into a dispenser and a needle pokes the capsule and he has to exhale and then breathe in the powder. Well, he can't get it all in one breath (sometimes it takes him 3 times to get it all). I said there must be an easier way!! So, I looked at his daughter who takes care of him and laughing I said, he should open the capsule, pour out the powder on a paper plate and then take a straw and suck it up.. LOL!!! She laughed so hard I thought she was going to wet herself. She said, oh yeah, I could see my father at the table with a straw trying to suck up the powder... He'd look like he was doing cocaine!! I said, well, at least he'd be getting his meds in one breath!! I hope things get better Flappsy and you know I'll be praying for you. I hope I gave you a little giggle for the day. I hope your day is peaceful and with less pain. Enjoy (or try to) Flappsy. Keep me posted as to how you're doing. πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

Have you tried any meds to increase circulation? I know I mentioned this on another post, but have you tried horny goat weed extract?

Ferretbandit, no I haven't. I've never even heard about it (until you mentioned it elsewhere) and wouldn't know where to get it. I'm allergic to so many grades, trees, and weeds, I'm not sure if I could take it. I'm allergic to lemongrass & milk thistle and 2 others I can't remember. I'm even allergic to cocklebur! Lol, it must have been because we ran through the farm fields and never missed getting them all on our clothes. Picking them off we'd get pricked by them.

I ate a piece of orange cake with cranberries and almonds today. Thirty minutes later I started itching, and at first i thought it was anxiety so i took a med tablet. Fifteen minutes later i realized it was an allergic reaction from something in the cake end took a benadryl. πŸ™πŸŒΌ

My dad & stepmom stopped by to surprise me, on their way home from Emory. My dad is so worried about me because as he's improved, over the past 16-18 months, I've deteriorated. Up until last fall I was driving them to every appointment that was looking distance. Then in December I had to tell my siblings I needed their help, due to my own health. Now I do good to drive to and from my own local appts because of the tremors. The Mayo doc said having the did soon n he's it's not really good for me to drive. But I've pretty much given it over to my hubby except when he can't get off work. I hated seeing the worry on my dad's face, he's 85. But he said, "Well Mayo fixed me & they'll fix you too!" We had a nice visit and went to supper with them. It was the highlight of my day, or actually my week!

Goodnight & wishes for good sleep & very little pain to all!πŸ™πŸŒΌ
