Swollen and numb hand

Jan 14, 2016 7:29 AM

Today, my left hand has turned numb and I can't get my wedding bands off because they are so swollen, could this be from helping my adoptive Mom move?

It very well can be. Did you at all sleep on that arm and cut off your circulation? Is there pain? Tingling? Did it just start? If there has been no trauma that you know of, give it a little while, ice it and elevate it and then see what happens. Keep me posted. {{Hugs}}πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

I was going to suggest what AlwayZ did. If you can get the swelling down in your fingers, use lotion or oil to help get your rings off. Hugs & prayersπŸ˜·πŸ™πŸŒΌπŸ’•

I'm also concerned bout the ring..if your hand is still swelling or just as swollen I woudl try getting that ring off u don't want to have the ring cut into your finger do to the swelling. I agree with the elevating and if possible try anti inflammatory meds or teas.

Liquid soap or lard type fat is good at removing rings just give it a while first as the more you tug the swollen it will get, elevate and ice protect with a towel though. If all else fails
S and ring is cutting circulation off fire services sometimes have equipment to help.
My fingers swell on and off and quite often I wake with numbness to the little finger side if my hands which lasts all day. I
When I touch it it feels like when they numb you for dental work and it travels to your loops but as the anesthesia is starting to wear off. Not totally numb but numbish, mines fibro and neuropathy related..and always worse after I've used hands a lot, Always worth a mention to doc. 🌼

Moparmom, I'm glad you got the appointment. Were you able to get your ring off?? Has the swelling come down any or the numbness subsided? Been thinking of you. Sending love, gentle {{Hugs}} and prayers that today has brought some improvement to how you are feeling. πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

It took me an hour to remove the ring, the swelling has not gone down much, it hurts to bend my fingers but hopefully it will go down soon.

Keep it elevated as much as you can and ice it on and off every hour or so. You may have injured yourself during the whole moving process. Is your hand discolored at all? (Red or blotchy) does it blanch white when you touch it and if so, how quickly does it go back to normal color. If it's more than 3 seconds, your cockatoo may be compromised. I'm really glad that you got the appointment with your doctor on Monday. Until then, ice, elevate, anti inflammatory meds and rest. (Also make sure you wiggle your fingers around to keep from getting stiff).πŸ’•
