T4 relentless

Apr 15, 2016 2:03 PM

I was hit by a caravan off my bicycle 18 months ago which resulted in multilevel thoracic fractures, disc damage 4/5, 7/8, 9/10, pelvic fractures, bursa of shoulders and knees. I have been going to Physio twice a week for well over a year. My pain never stops and is worst around T4. I wake up several times a night in pain. I'm so sick of it. My psychologist said I looked depressed. No kidding! I think she's on to something. I saw a pain specialist today. It was the briefest exam ever. They suggested pacing. No explanation other than look it up on the Internet and basically increase activity by 10% from when I'm pain free. I'm never pain free. And suggested ducloxetine for pain. I live in a remote community and it took a 3 hr drive and a 3 hour flight to see this doctor to tell me that. Oh and that it takes time to heal. I'm furious and I hurt so much I can't sleep! Grrrr

Geez, DipBop, I hear you & am furious for you, too. I have had bad pain for 17 years. My doctor hasn't been very helpful, either. He just tells me that drugs don't help nerve pain, and sends me to someone else. I have been to the pain clinic more than once, but deep injections do not help me. When I was a child I fell off a trampoline & landed on my butt. That was the original injury to my tailbone. Then I had a small stroke. That is when the REAL pain began.
Your accident was much much worse. If we were pain free we wouldn't need their no-help. Wish I could help you.

Wow Silvrrry 17 years is a long time to put up with pain. No need to minimise your own situation I'm quite sure landing on your butt would be unbearable. I feel lucky because I have no spinal cord damage. I just feel that doctors don't listen to me because I'm stoic. Maybe I need to be a dribbling mess in the Drs office to get a proper treatment plan? I understand your frustration too. Sounds like we are having similar experience of useless medical "experts". Take care and I hope things settle for you.

Dibop, I'm sorry to hear of your injury, and your uncaring doctor. Many in the medical field seem to be so dismissive, without really trying to find a treatment for the pain. My first spine injury was in 5th grade, falling from a 18' slide flat of my back. Then 5 auto accidents by age 35 (only 1 my fault). Injuries do take time to heal, and pain may come and go at various intensities. But we still need better pain relief. There's no relief for the DDD, & OA in my spine, but I've had some success with epidural steroid injections for sciatic pain. Other than that I rely on voltaren gel, heat, Tylenol Arthritis, or Tramadol. I also have muscle relaxers when my muscles lock in spasms. I hope you can find someone e who can help give you better relief, and coping with the pain. Many others here have lots of great suggestions. Hugs & prayers! 🙂💕🙏🌼
