Temporal Arteritis / daily excruciating headaches

Jan 29, 2017 9:04 AM

Does anyone have temporal arteritis (giant cell arteritis)? My mom (70 yo) has been diagnosed with this for about 3-4 years with little relief. Her rheumatologist gives her methotrexate infusions every 5-6 weeks (also for RA) and she's on prednisone and percocet + methadone for pain. She has daily, excruciating headaches w/nausea that only dulls a bit with the pain meds. About a year ago, the headaches subsided a bit unless she was stressed, so her doc lowered her prednisone dosage but the headaches recently returned daily so she's back up on her dose. The doctor does not have another plan or way to reduce her pain. They've ruled out migraine, as well. Had anyone experienced temporal arteritis or know someone who has? What else can be done to treat these headaches? Any help would be appreciated!!
