The death of a phone...

Apr 21, 2017 7:30 AM

Yea.. I killed it. It was an Easter causality. While washing the huge pot from the cooker I used for the ham I lost my grip - a whole pan of hot water went cascading onto the countertop. Yup - right where my phone was sitting. Yikes!

I thought I dried it up pretty well. I really did apologize. But my phone must have really been upset because it shut down. Broke my heart, it did. And cause frantic chaos. See I was leaving in 4 days to head to Fargo. (in fact I am writing this from a hotel room as I am halfway to my destination.)

So - I go to AT&T to file an insurance claim after chatting online with a young man named Steven. Why didn't I call the number he gave me? Well see - for some reason the house phone refused to work as well. I could get incoming calls but not make outgoing ones. Yup. It's been one of those weeks.

My old phone was an LG V10. Nice larger screen. But was waiting for contract to end in September so I could get a Samsung that would work with my Samsung Gear 2 watch. Now I would have to wait a year. Imagine my surprise when the replacement watch arrived on Tuesday and it was a Samsung Edge 7. I was sure someone had messed up. In the meantime I was getting my old phone ready to ship back to them in case it wasn't a mistake. I took out the SD card and pushed my on off button. Wha-la! Phone turned on. Oh geeze! So Wednesday I was back at AT&T. She said the V10 was no longer available so I got the upgrade. She set up just a few functions.. Said I could finish the transfers then sent me on my way.

So yesterday I left - heading towards Fargo. I have one phone - this old one - that I can text and go online on. And I have the new one I can make calls on. Bought both with me so daughter can figure out how to do transfers etc. Then will send this one back. Now that it's over being mad at me I am sure going to miss it.

I know this is long but there's an addition to my story. Dad went with me on Monday because he wanted to talk about his bill. When we left he had upgraded from a basic Verizon phone to a smart phone for him and mom and a tablet for mom. So all week I am trying to get my phone situation taken care of. The home phones taken care of. And trying to teach mom and dad how to use a smart phone.

Man oh man do I need a vacation. Oh that's right. I am on vacation. In a hotel room where the person in the connecting room had TV blaring until 3am and kept running into the wall. And a lady at 6:30 is walking down the halls sing in off key. Singing that song about wanting to be a hero? Lorry - I wonder what today will bring my way.
