They cancelled my kidney surgery

Sep 28, 2016 12:15 PM

I was approved for surgery but they cancelled it due to anesthesia needed $500 up front. So what now am I going to have this big stone stuck in me. And added pain, blood in my urine. I'm so stressed out I have a butterfly rash on my face and it hurts. All my joints are hurting and I just feel sick so I guess I'm having another flare. I keep having infections from this stone too. I feel like I have to be close to death to get Medicaid. I'm just done!

Painedlady, I am so very sorry about what happened.. I know many times the anesthiologist wants their money up front. Call and ask who is going it, many don't take insurance.. however if you tell them that you cannot afford that kind of money absnthat you'll set up a payment plan, generally that's good enough to get them to do it. I wish you the best, sending positive vibes, well wishes and hopes that they reconsider because the insurance company approved the surgery and you can't be constantly walking around with that huge stone abd reoccurring infections from it. {{{Hugs}{}}πŸ’•πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—πŸ’•

No the surgery got approved due to me not having insurance. Anesthesiologist wants $500 up front due to me not having insurance. I'm a teacher but I haven't worked in 3 years when my health really staring going downhill. So I'm fighting for disability and Medicaid. I go see the urologist tomorrow to see what he says.

Thank You Alwayz for the well wishes!

Painedlady, I hear you... I'm sorry that you've had to go through all of this crap. Especially since kidney stones are so very painful. When I was admitted to the hospital for 8 days, I had a roommate that kidney stones. When I asked her if she was alright and could I get something for her, she was screaming in agony. They had to give the poor girl IV Morphine as well as Ativan to help her get some rest. I hope that you can get this all straightened out. Your chart, made when they do your pre-op tests, clearly states what surgery you're going to have and what meds you're to get when the procedure. {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•

Would they not out u on a payment plan. Or could they take a partial payment and get a plan for the rest of it. I've had this happen for my.last surgery. I gave them a portion of the amount they wanted and I got a plan for the rest. Sorry I had to deal with this.

Sep 28, 2016 1:12 PM

No they want the whole $500 and then it's a payment plan for the rest.

Sep 28, 2016 1:16 PM

Am so sorry hun. :( I can't understand why if surgery is pre-approved that the Anesthesiologist doesn't go along with everyone else. Once upon a time doctors and medical personell were there to care for the people instead of there for the money.

((((gentle hugs)))) I hope your Dr. can come up with a solution for you.

Ughh.. I hate the system..I'm sorry

Sep 28, 2016 1:19 PM

Painedlady, that is utterly ridiculous and I don't get not treating someone just because you didn't have the anesthesia co-pay!!! Perhaps the doctor could call on your behalf and that it's going to be OK... {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•

@painedlady I'm so very sorry. I hope karma get that anesthesiologist!!! Soak in a warm Epsom salt bath for at least 15 min longer if you can. It sometimes helps my pain never takes it away but helps. Keep us updated. Sending a prayer up for you.

Start a "give forward account" or "Go fund me"

Sep 28, 2016 2:51 PM

I just don't have the courage to start a go fund me account. I have hid my health issues from family and friends. This makes the 3rd surgery that I can't get. I just can't explain all my health issues. Sjorgren's syndrome, Fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, 3 herniated discs, osteoarthritis, fibroid tumors, torn cartilage in both knees, GERD, anxiety and depression. I just don't go anywhere anymore and I know my family and friends miss me coming out. But not having insurance is making it where I can't get pain meds even though I have been referred to pain management a bunch of times. I can't see specialists that I need to see. It's just so much and it's getting to me.

I have to agree with u on the gofund me page. I didn't do one for a whike and when I did no one contributed. It hurt me more that one was willing to give up the cost of a cup of coffee to help me more then the actual illness. I suppose people doubted the desperation of the need. I don't know.. it awful when u need help especially medical help and the cost is so high that it stops u from getting it. I don't know if this is a thing but maybe look and see if there is a foundation for this surgery like a research grant that will help pay for it.

Painedlady, I'm so sorry to hear this! I was going to suggest the "go fund me" too. Or maybe check into a teaching hospital program. My sister received treatment for Hep-C at no cost, and my brother received cataract surgery at no cost through the Lion's club. Hugs love and prayers you will get the treatment you need, and not have to face this again! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈ
