Third time so far this year-my shoulder went out without me again!

Mar 06, 2016 9:55 PM

Sleeping is getting so dangerous these days. LOL Three times so far this year alone! It wouldn't bother me so bad if it would just invite me along when it goes out, but it goes out when I sleeping and usually it's back by the time I wake up, and I'm left with just the pain. It never takes me with it. :( I have to laugh because if I didn't I'd be crying.

I'm so sorry scaryann! I sometimes have a very hard time laying on my sides because of bursitis. I can't imagine my shoulders or hips going out of joint! Hugs!!

Thanks Flappys. When I was little my shoulders would go out whenever someone picked me up by my arms, or held my arms up to lern to walk. Then when I got a bit older they only went out when I put a tack in the wall. Now they go out when I'm sleeping or even when I shut the car door. It's not fun, but you learn to live with it. Hope you have a great day. :-)

ScaryAnn, I can't imagine having to be concerned about joints popping out as a results of tasks. And something as important as sleeping. I am so sorry you experience that regularly. I am sure since you have lived your entire life with this you have investigated things to prevent this. Have you found anything that limits the occur acne of your condition? Is this a common infliction for people? What is the cause? What is the name for it? I love your sense of humor. We do have to have a sense of humor about our life and our inflictions or you are right ...we would be constantly crying. Peace & Grace dear lady!

My sisters, pardon me if I'm wrong but I believe Scary has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hyper mobility type?

Mar 08, 2016 10:06 AM

Yes amanda, you are correct! I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome hypermobility type. Bracing and core strengthening are about all I can do to stop the dislocations. My insurance will only cover 20 PT visits per year, no matter what. You learn to limit how far and in what direction you move in. The night before last I slept a whole whopping 2 1/2 hours because my shoulder hurt so bad. Oxymorphone didn't even touch the pain, just made me nauseous. Last night I actually slept from 10 pm - 2:30 am and then from 3 am - 7:30! That's a lot of sleep for me lately, I still woke up tired though.

The doctors in my area do not believe in bracing, so the majority of my braces are OTC and don't fit correctly. I did finally get one to order custom wrist braces because I couldn't find and OTC one that didn't cut the circulation off in my hands and make them go even more numb than usual. Even with the brace on my right wrist pops out at least 10 times a day. It's more than 20 times a day without it. The first time it went out I was THINKING about dishing up a bowl of ice cream! I make Rick (my other half) dish up my ice cream now. The only problem with that is he thinks he's dishing it up for himself and I end up with a HUGE bowl full. LOL

The last time I dislocated my knee, I was putting cinnamon rolls in the oven. I ended up using crutches or a walker for two and a half weeks. Who knew cooking could be so dangerous either. LOL And walking...we won't go into how dangerous that is. :-)

I hope everyone has a wonderful and pain free day!
