To Humira or not to Humira..?

Feb 27, 2015 7:40 PM

Have any of you been on Humira? My doctor is recommending it for my psoriatic arthritis and my skin is so bad right now that I'm dying for relief but the side effects on the website are terrifying. She keeps telling me it's safe but I've had bad reactions to other meds in the past. Who has tried it? What types of side effects did you have?

I'm on Enbrel for Psoriasis. I didn't want Humira because of the potential for liver damage. The Enbrel works great except for the weight gain (20 lbs).

My younger sister is on Humira for Crohn's Disease. She takes Benadryl beforehand and then the injection,. She said it burns really bad and if she doesn't take the Benadryl, she ends up in bed curled up with horrendous stomach pain. That's the only experience I have personally with this drug.

I take the pen twice a month for ankylosis spondylitis (a form of arthritis in the spine).
I have been taking it for a good while no real issues.
There is some minor injection site tenderness for a day or two. So i make sure it above my pants waist line, generally just above the belly button and alternate right and left side each time.
Have talked to a few others on it and never heard of any issues. Plus Abvie the manufacturer has a great nursing care team. They call and check up regularly and answer all your questions and concerns. I even has an issue where my delivery was left out all day and they were making sure the pharmacy wad sending me new meds at no cost and that I was ok. Plus they will cover all but $5 of my copay. I went without for a while due to cost before I got into there program and when the nurse found out she was upset. Made sure I knew I never had to go without ever again. She said if I lost my insurance they would even help me with nonprofits to pay for my meds if needed. It says something about a company when they will do all that for you.
