To quit or not quit me job

Jun 02, 2016 11:15 AM

At the moment I am waiting on my disability hearing but have no choice but to work. I work in excruciating pain daily with no relief from medications. My job just denied me time to be off for my infusion tomorrow. I won't have a choice but to get another unapproved absence, pretty soon I will be fired. I'm at my end here... I'm so confused

Vizallygirl, that is such a nightmare for you. I am sorry you are in such a conundrum. To work in agony is not easy, I did it for almost 10 years and had many surgeries and went back to work within 2 weeks of procedures I should have been out months for. How long have you been at your job? I can't imagine an employer not letting you take the day for your infusion and making you take an unapproved absence. Disability is so hard to get. I read with a heavy heart so may folks who have been denied several times and are awaiting hearings, etc. it's a shame and it's not fair. The money paid out for disability is YOUR money!!! It's not a government handout or allotment as they call it. You've worked and contributed from each and every paycheck as has your employer towards your retirement and disability. It's a double edged sword. It's never worth your health declining due to stress making your issues worse and if they're going to fire you because they won't let you take off for medical care, that's not fair either. I am sending you well wishes and prayers for clarity on what direction you should take. Keep us posted. {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

I went from being a paramedic to having to get a desk job, then reducing hours to 20 a week and then my contract came up for renewal and my boss decided not to .

Try to have any requests for time off for medical reasons answered via email. That will give you more ammo because it is in writing. It is extremely difficult to get approved for disability even when you do meet the criteria. Also keep a written journal of how many days off you take because you are sick or in pain. This key factor helped me win my case after fighting for almost 3 years. It is all a convaluded mess. Try to keep working as long as possible and save as much money as possible. The years it takes to POSSIBLY win are very difficult and made even harder because of no income and no insurance. Short version it all sucked. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Do not quit. Complete the paperwork for FMLA
Flexible FMLA for frequent Doctors appointments keeps your job. When you have used up more All that time and pto. Let them write up your repremands and respond in writting. Good luck. If you quit you will not not be elgible for food stamps, or unemployment.

You can use google drive to create spread sheets. Document. Your absence. Columns should include dates of all appointments and call sick days. I suggest
Date of absence, reason, date request for time off submitted, preapproved (yes or no)
Effect to your Flma and pto, balance available for FMLA, PTO BALANCE. In last column put notes. See journal for details. In a composition book or word document give more details and save your reprimands.

I would also note if you swap shifts with coworker to avoid using pto or fmla.

I took off on FMLA for surgery in 2010. Was told I needed 6-12 months to recuperate so I had to quit. They weren't able to keep my position, not in a 3 person department. Unfortunately my health continued to compound and worsen with new problems and diagnoses. I'm still waiting for a hearing, after being denied in 2014. I'll keep you in my prayers! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

I was fired for taking time off. My boss started telling my coworkers that I was the reason everyone had extra work. HR person is the owners wife and said it was okay. They put me on a pip and made sure I failed. I have been fighting for disability for 2 years. Waiting on my hearing.
