Tomorrow's the day

Mar 17, 2015 11:12 AM

I'm having horrible anxiety today... My pain levels are egregious and I'm trying to quiet my mind, do breathing exercises and relax my spirit. Tomorrow morning, I go back to the Ear, Nose, Throat doctor to find out the results of my nerve conduction study and my CT Scan of my head to see if I have any tumors leaning on the nerves causing my hearing loss. I'm really scared and just want it to be done. I want my answers so I can get a plan of attack and take care of it. Just needed to get this off my chest... It may help me calm down. I pray you are all having a peaceful and light pain day. Thanks for listening. πŸ’•

Alwayz I hate that you are so stressed out. Maybe reading your Bible for a while and then doing your deep breathing it would help my favorite passage is Palms 23 it brings me comfort everytime I read it. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers... πŸ˜’πŸ˜•.... Anxiety is very hard thing to deal with on top of everything else. I guess I'm worried there will be a mass and will have to have surgery to correct it. It's quite common to get that type of tumor. Well, I know it sounds negative but, if there's going be a tumor, I'm going to be the one to get it... πŸ˜•.. Ugh!!!

Thank you, each and every one of you for your prayers and your support. I think that I was definitely guided here by God to find this group of oh so very special people. It's 2:00am, I'm still doing relaxation breathing, listening to music and wishing for sleep. At this point, im very tired and just want this to be over with. I need an answer and a plan so I can face whatever it is and move forward. Y'all always make me feel like I can do it and that I matter. Just writing this, I'm actually beginning to relax even more knowing that you are all here. I think perhaps I'm going to sign off , get in my new chair and go to sleep. Have a Blessed Rest of the night

Well everyone, I'm all done at the doctor. The ct scan did not show any tumor or blood clots on the nerve. It did show there is fluid around the mastoid which could be from a prior infection or because my sinuses are acting up. He said with all my auto immune issues, that could be causing the problem. The nerve conduction study showed that the sound travelled across the nerve from my ear to the brain equally on both sides. He said that ct scans don't show masses very well but since everything else is ok, he is 90% certain there is nothing there. (He wanted me to have an MRI but with the Neurostimulator implant and all the wires I have in my cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, it's not possible). He said he wants me to see my hematologist and be checked for Lupus, Lyme's Disease, MS (which I thought could not be diagnosed without an MRI to see the lesions on the brain which he said would not show on a CT Scan), among other stuff... Just a complete comprehensive panel checking everything. When I get those results, then I go see him again to follow up. He recommended against a hearing aid because the hearing in my right ear is perfect and with the artificially amplified sound in the left, it could create confusion in the brain as to the direction of the sound and the quality. He said he will continue to monitor my hearing to see what happens. So, that's where I'm at right now, I'll definitely keep you all updated as I go along. I'm very tired now from stressing and am getting a migraine from him pressing on all those nerves near my jaw and ear. I'm going to put some heat on it and try to relax. I want to thank each and every one of you for being by my side. It's appreciated more than I can ever express. You're all in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you're having a peaceful and low pain day. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•πŸŒ»πŸ™πŸŒΊ

Glad for the good news! Of course it leaves you in the unknown. Sigh.

Look at www.nationalmssociety.org at the diagnosis section. It describes different tests used for diagnosis. MRI is not the only one.

Alwayz Thank God there was no tumor there !!! I am on my way to talk to my Neuro, when I left the house this morning I for got my paperwork to show him,so I had to go back home and get it hope that I'm not too late for my appointment it's at 1:00pm. Wish me luck that he will listen to me today when I ask for a spinal tap and a MRI from my head to tailbone. To rule out CIS.

So glad no tumor!!!! Pulling for some answers for you!

Mar 18, 2015 4:18 PM

AlwayZ, I'm so glad there's no tumor. Once again we have a common problem... the fluid around the mastoid. Your doctor actually explained better than mine did.

There are tests for MS called Evoked Potential... I found out about them from the Emory University Hospital website for their MS facility. Www.Emoryhealthcare.org look for the neurology specialties, MS. They even have a dizziness & balance center.

Mar 18, 2015 4:38 PM

I understand that mastoid thing although I think mine may be different? I had mastoiditis several years back and was put on a certain antibiotic for it as well as later during the issue they sliced a hole in my eardrum in order to insert a suction to get some yuk out. Then the had me hold my nose and blow for a week to keep the incision open for drainage. Great part was when I did that my ear whistled like a teapot that was heard across the room! Great party trick but it did leave me with tin iti that is louder than my voice. 😁

Mar 18, 2015 4:55 PM

Oregonhomestead, I'll never hear the song "I'm a little teapot" without thinking of you again! Lol. My doc said the fluid I have isn't mastoiditis. He said its normal. I'm not sure I agree with him. I've lost more hearing and the lady that tested me said make sure the neurologist knows the ear cilia isn't receptive to the stimulation she did in the tests. More questions...

Mar 18, 2015 9:54 PM

Oregon, now I can't get that song out of my head... LOL!!!!
FlappsyLady, the ENT told me the fluid was nothing to worry about and it was "normal" either from a prior infection or because my sinuses are acting up so badly. He was, however, still concerned as to why I've lost so much hearing and the nerve study came back normal and as far as the CT Scan shows, no tumor. I'm confused because he said that the TMJ should not have effected my hearing to the extent that it has. He also said that auto immune issues can cause hearing loss. He is going to monitor me very closely. We'll see what happens when the blood work comes back. Same thing.... More diagnosis, more questions... It's not easy. 🌻
