I've been on tramadol for 16 years for my fibromyalgia pain, fatigue and irrital bowel syndrom (ibs). I've had another argument that my abdominal pain in my lower left side. Is not diviculits but constipation. I've had ibs for 19 years now I'm being told I have constipation from the tramadol and the doctor has refused to treat me unless I stop the tramadol. I have had this intense pain in the past and treated with antibiotics and relief x-rays only show large amt of bm and could not see diviculits. My question is has anyone gone through this were antibiotics help your lower left abdominal pain then told that antibiotics can just do that and not be an infection. I have stoped having fevers for over 20 years now and just become more I'll tell there more problems from leaving a infection in my body longer than I should.
I know pain pills like the Oxycodone I'm on cause constipation. Opioids are notorious for that. I've never herd of it happening with Tramadol. I know there's a new drug that is specifically for OIC but maybe it would work on a Tramadol user? I take sometimes stool softener or laxatives if it's real bad. Probiotics ( I use Pearl) are good too.
Tramadol can cause constipation but I eat prunes and papaya every day along with other fruits and drink at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day to offset that. If I do take an antibiotic I do take probiotics and in between antibiotics if I have digestive issues, I take probiotics then again too. I did have miserable abdominal pain for several years, but had gallstones and eventually had my gallbladder removed...
I have been on all diffrent types of pain meds over the past 35 years because my system became immune to them after time. My gut has been torn up for a long time taking laxatives and fiber and probiotics and yogurt etc... Colonics have helped a lot. I had to have my gallblader removed. Years ago as well. OIC is there as well and on meds for that. However Medicare won't pay for my OIC meds.... I called them and asked them why. They said there. Not nessissary with proper diet. I told them my file shows I. On opiets for decades. And it's OIC. Not Poor Diet Induced Constipation. They didn't care. They are so stupid sometimes.
Ovetcomer--medicare is no longer in the business of helping those who are ill. As like all other insurances, Their focus is on what they can get away with "not paying for". So sad. We have to be savvy in how treatments are ordered. Doctor must document a diagnosis & justification for each treatment option. Office staff have to be savvy to in making sure this documentation goes with the bill submitted to insurance carrier. This info is part of our tool belt as a fibro warrior.
I've had IBS-C for over 25 years. That was way before I was put on tramadol, and it hasn't affected it. I find my diet does though, such as higher sugar intake or too much fatty/fried foods or milk products constipate me even worse. Then I developed Sjogrens, and if I don't drink 120+ ounces of water every day I really end up with blocked constipated intestines. That's when I swallow 2 tablespoons of mineral or cod liver oil. Yucky but it helps.
Organic apple cider vinegar with 'the mother' in it helps to. It will say with the mother on the label. It is rough to take a shot of vinegar but read about the benefits online. Be prepared to drink lots of water after. Typically I drink 96 ounces of water a day so that helps tremendously.
Thank you everyone if been on tramadol 100 er, as well as 30 mg 3 x day as needed for past 17 years have had ibs for 19 years and pretty much constipated my whole life. I've cut back on the 30 mg 3xd and have developed intense pain in lower back, I've been iceing my back and heat packing my belly. My ibs is better but my lower back pain has intensified greatly but cold helps. I drink water up to 80 plus oz day for a year been pushing it , I do also eat alot of vegetable but have a hard time eating fruit. Staying away from sugar, caffien, soda, which is hard I loved all of them and crave them most every day. Just frustrating when I thought I was eating correctly and drinking water I still had a bad ibs attack. I will use some of your ideas thank you all for your suggestions it helps to hear them again.
