Tremors & Swelling & Throbbing & Stinging

Aug 02, 2015 4:17 PM

I've taken it easy, driving as little as possible since we got back from Mayo. And for 2 weeks my hand tremors have remained minimal except for 3 days, today being one. We were gone all day yesterday and going in and out all day today on errands.

Not only are both hands trembling & throbbing, right 4x bad as left, they are swollen. I almost didn't get my rings off. And on top of that both legs and feet are swollen, with painful stinging. School starts tomorrow and it was so crowded at Walmart. I was afraid to drive a cart with the crowd, and we only needed a few things, so I decided to walk. Big mistake, because I almost didn't make it back to the car.

The swelling in my right leg is 2x the left. In the calf I've had a soft mushy lump for over two years, and every doc has said it's nothing to be concerned about. I think they're wrong, because the swelling is causing extreme pain around the lump. I think it's a cyst of some type that gets bigger when I'm on my feet too long, like today. I wonder if the vein clinic will be able to tell me what it is next week. Regardless, the swelling & throbbing & stinging are enough to make me not want to walk. The tremors I can handle better. I'm just glad our errands are done for several days! 🙏🌼

So sorry you had to endure crowds so felt you had to push yourself to walk! I would really be at my doctors about the lump in the leg thing, but then now I'm laughing at myself because I am such a hypocrite, because I know I wouldn't say anything most likely. I have some sort of mass in/on my liver that they test every now and then and pronounce benign or nonthreatening, but I've never been quite satisfied with the answers as to what it is or why it's there. I just go with the flow on it. Have had MRI'S and CT scans, guess it's been there since 2008 but they just decided to really look at it this year. Comforting. My point, don't be like me, push them to check all possibilities. I don't think we should let anonymous lumps linger about.
Glad your errands are done. Hopefully you are resting.

Thanks Wynnbliss. My cardiologist has me set up to see the vein clinic this Thursday. He doesn't suspect a blood clot but he's concerned that I'm having swelling after two years. He mentioned there's a possibility the pelvic congestion syndrome & veins that were blocked off in 2012 may be the cause. I had such severe constant pelvic, groin and thigh pain until they closed it off, so I'm scared if they unblock them that pain will return. 🙏🌼

Flappsy,'I know you are in Georgia and like NY it's been hot and steamy with very high humidity. That in itself will cause you to swell up just as in winter, your fingers will shrink from the cold. I think what is happening is that when you do swell it causes pressure on that lump and irritates the nerves surrounding it. If it is a soft, mushy lump, it could be a lipoma. I have had many. It is an encapsulated hunk of fat that grows into a lump and you can get them anywhere. I hope this was helpful to you. Feel better!! 💕🙏🏻🌻

AlwayZ, how would I find out, like what doc diagnosed yours? It gets bigger as the calf retains fluid, and firmer. 🙏🌼

The lump itself is probably not getting bigger. Lipomas tend to be able to be seen and/or felt at the surface of the skin but tend to always be bigger than they feel. They usually run deep. Your GP could tell you or a dermatologist or worst case, the ER. I found mine, went to a general surgeon who checked them and I went to the hospital and had them out. I did because I had clusters of them (14 on one side and more on the other) Mine were in my abdomen. They can grow anywhere though. If you press on them hard enough, sometimes you'll feel and hear them "crunch" their weird but also harmless. I have another cluster of them on my right side now up near my ribcage.

OK, thanks. With no more help than my PCP has been I think I'll see a dermatologist. 🙏🌼

That sounds so freaky 😓. Always get lumps checked out. Not hard to and shouldn't be afraid to mention anything to doctors. They work for you, not us paying them to take stupid criticisms

That's just it, I've shown it to 3-4 doctors and they've blown out off. I've not seen a dermatologist yet so I think I'm going to start there. 🙏🌼

Good luck flappy, you've prayed for so many of us and we truly appreciate it. I hope those lumps are nothing worth worrying about

Aug 04, 2015 5:39 PM

Eeek! Hate it when doctors blow you off with a non answer, like why did you even bother showing me, stop wasting my time attitude. Maybe if they took the time to help us understand why it's nothing to worry about, we'd feel better about it!
Ok rant over.
But in all seriousness, doctors need to take more notice of patients. The last time I had something brushed aside, I was in hospital two days later because they were wrong.
I do hope they at least take notes of any changes and new issues? Hopefully, it's a purely benign problem that's causing you pain with the added hope that it will become pain free very soon!
I wonder if it's a fungal infection? If you've had more appear elsewhere, it kinda suggests that as a possibility. I would definitely let your doctor know about more appearing in different places. If that's no good, I'd go with the dermatologist idea of AlwayZ.
Good luck!

Thanks Octobot & PJB. To date I only have the one lump. When my leg swells with fluid it seems bigger and harder. I've begun to get swelling painful lymph nodes in my underarm areas, especially on the left side. Usually it lasts 12-36 hours and goes away on its own, but it's happened at least 4-5 times this year. It began months ago, and again was brushed off by my PCP. Since the lymph nodes are part of the endocrine system and I have an appt coming up at the end of the month, I'm going to ask the endocrine doc about it. The only reason the lump in my leg concerns me is because it gets very painful when I swell with fluid. 🙏🌼
