Trigeminal Neuralgia

Apr 11, 2016 4:09 PM

Does anyone suffer from trigeminal neuralgia? I have a few questions.

My face turns beat red and burns terribly at times. Is that what you mean? When it first started it was for 2 years straight 24/7. It made not want to live it was so excruciating. Now I just get it from time to time thank God. I never did get any answers from docs on it. One gave me a cortisone face cream. She didn't listen long enough for me to explain that nerve pain not my skin hurting.

I get shooting pains through my face and head. I also can't do loud sounds or they send these awful pains through my head and face so I was wondering what people do so they can be around loud noises and not be in so much pain.

I use ear plugs not the most attractive thing but it works.

Burningwoman, yes I have had trigeminal neuralgia (TN) since a fall in 1997, when I struck my head on concrete. For two years I had constant tingling pain in the top left side of my face. It went from the ear to the nose & mouth, and from the scalp to cheek/ear. After that it just came and went randomly. Then about 2009 I began having it more often, and it was coming ahead of migraine headaches. Those headaches worsened and combined with cervicogenic headaches. I went through epidural steroid injx and AOL the symptoms have improved. My last migraine was 3-6 months ago, and the TN comes & goes with mild symptoms.

Oops... Didn't mean to hit post. I also wear those foam ear plugs whenever I'm around loud noises. I should add my migraines started in 1995. My PCP Asus the TN may be auras to the migraines, and the fall in 1997 just caused the symptoms to be exaggerated.

Thanks everyone. I tried the ear plugs and the pressure in my ear actually made things worse.

You know, when I put earbuds in I find that I get a strange sensation in my head. I feel pressure and my face and ears get warm and red. I can't use them for any length of time. It's very odd. {{{Hugs}}}💕🙏🏻

I was just recently earlier this year diagnosed with TN, after my own research figures that this is what plagued me for 3-4 years. Burning, excruciating pain in face and head primarily on the right side. I also in the last couple months experienced a concussion as a result of a car accident. It has caused debilitating head pain and aches. I have had great releaf from Myofascial Release Therapy and Occipital Nerve Blocks.

There's someone on here who has TN. Her name is Sezzy and she lives in England. She'll be on eventually.

Say her name and she shall appear! 😉
I have now been battling TN for 2 years now and if you have any questions I will gladly answer what I can.
I've not been offered nerve blocks or had Myofascial release therapy so I can't comment on them or had concussion tho
