Trying to break my constant migraine

Oct 26, 2016 3:30 PM

Saw pain Dr. today. I'm fact am still.sitting in his lobby. They have changed my medication a little as pertains to pain but also addresses my migraine since my neurologist wouldn't see me due to the car accident triggering the migraines. Today he did Occipital nerve block on both sides and are scheduling nerve blocks for neck .. I have had a constant headache and daily migraine since my car wreck on Sept. 14th. Am so glad they are working with trying to reduce my migraines.

I need time to rest but being mom's care giver doesn't really allow that time. For instance I need to get home (a 35 minute drive that will take an hour or more because of traffic this time of day.) And once home I need to make supper.

Got to go to pharmacy sometime today. Can someone add some extra hours to this day please - I am running out of time.

Oh no Mimikay, I hope your car has now started for you and you've not had to wait long for someone to help you. Please try to take it easy while you're caring for your mum as well.
You're in my prayers and I'm sending you {{{{HUGS}}}

Sezzy.. It's a new car. Has 328 miles on it. I read the complete manual while waiting for dad to rescue me. Found no answers. So googled it. Guess if this happened you need to turn steering wheel back and forth while turning the key. (guess they think I am coordinated!). Just as dad arrived to rescue me I got the car started. My good old 1999 Aurora never did this. Lol. So how was I to know.

The med my doctor prescribed for break through pain.. It seems my Doctor needs to get it pre-authorized. So - in the meantime I just deal with it.

Mimikay, have you tried to movie the steering wheel right or left and then turn the key? The steering wheel locks in most cars so that may be what the issue is. I only know this because its happened to me and my Dad was an auto mechanic for over 60 years!! Hope you got it working. Sending positive vibes, well wishes and good karma your way!! {{{Hugs}}}πŸ’•πŸ˜Š

Thanks Alwayz. I did figure it out right as dad arrived to "rescue his little girl..." lol. Although I ain't so little and certainly not young. (will be 57 next month)

You hang in there Mimikay😊 I know just what you mean about your Dad rescuing. I miss my Dad so much. Not a day goes by I don't think of him & the wealth of his rescuing & love.

Mimikay I will be 51 next month

Silvrrry... I truly am blessed to have both of my parents still living. Dad just turned 81 and mom is 78. I moved back here to help mom after her back surgery almost 7 years ago. The surgery was a failure so here I have stayed. Being able to be with them in their twilight years is special. Am so sorry your dad is no longer here - I imagine you have tons of memories helping to kelp him alive in your heart.

What day Alwayz? I am a turkey baby in that every few years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving. My birthday is the 25th. After I turned 50 I lost count of how old I am. Lol. When doctors etc. ask I just tell them what year I was born and let them do the math. ;) tell them my rememberer is broke.

Oct 26, 2016 10:58 PM

I'm the 9th. I was born on the day of the largest blackout of the East Coast history in 1965.. I was born, they took one look and all the fucking lights went out.. LOL!!!😜

Oct 26, 2016 11:16 PM

Lol Alwayz.. And you have been wowing them ever since!

Miimikay, what migraine medication have they given you? I've suffered from complicated migraines since I was 9, some lasting weeks. I have tried every migraine medication there is with little success. My neurologist finally put me on a very old migraine medication called Midrin, that's it's brand name. The generic name is isometheptene mucate, dichloralphenazone and acetaminophen... It is an AMAZING medication, the first time I used it I could LITERALLY feel my blood vessels constriction lessening in the back of my cranium, it was the strangest thing. I don't leave home without them now. If you go on to Web MD and type in the drug name you can read the reviews which will all pretty much tell you the same thing that it is amazing. Just figured I would share this with you.

Samantha - I have tried about everything I could. Am on Maxalt now. Many migraine meds I can't take as I have kidney issues. Used to do injections but after the kidney issues that had to stop. It was the DHE injections. (I think that's what it was called) it really worked. Before the accident the Maxalt worked. Now it's not. I used to have ones who lasted weeks. The Neurologist did a IV cocktail and that helped break the cycle. I went from that to having them every few days. Then for about 6 months before the accident I was only having 1 or 2 a month. Although I do have a headache that has been my companion for as long as I can remember. It never goes away.

The occipital nerve blocks seem to be helping. I didn't wake up with a migraine. (fingers crossed)

I need to find a new Neurologist. I really like mine but if he can't be there for me when something triggers my migraine (like a car accident) he won't see me. I need someone who will see me through whatever life throws at me. I hate doctor shopping. Will mention Midrin to whoever I see.

Sorry, I've been M.I.A.. I completely understand kidney issues as do I. I've done Botox injections as well but, no relief. I hope you find a competent Neurologist, everyone deserves proper caring doctors.

Oh wow you poor thing... you in Tucson? I'm a great elderly companion/friend. I'd volunteer to help w/ Your Mom. I got my CNA certificate. Have you priced a caregiver to drop in one day a week to give yourself a break? My heart goes out to you. I suffer from migraines they're evil!!! I have 14-19 a month & I automatically throw up. I take imitrex injections I give myself. Although that will change soon because they're not helping. I think my body is immune to it after 5 years. But it was good till about 6 minutes Beth's ago. I'd consider going to a chiropractor. Have you been exspord to meningitis? If there is a possibility please get medical care ASAP!

Mzladybug - I am in Arkansas. Can't do Imitrex injections due to kidney issues. Since this migraine started right after my car wreck I am sure it's related to the whiplash etc. The nerve blocks my pain doctor have me on the back of my head helped. I still have a constant headache (but have had that since my stroke in 2003) but the migraine is gone. Of course I overdid it This weekend so can feel one trying to break through. Taking Excedrin Migraine this am. If it gets worse I will take a Maxalt. If that doesn't help my pain clinic have me some samples of a powder you mix with water. Don't remember it's name.

Have you had a neurosurgeon look at your cervical spine? I've suffered from chronic migraines since I was 11 years old & would have them for days, along with vomiting. Finally found a great neurosurgeon here in birmingham that took me seriously & *really* looked at MRI (that other docs dismissed) and did a multilevel cervical fusion. Since then (almost a year ago) I've only had 1 or 2 "minor" migraines (went away easily with 1 dose of meds.) I would never have thought that this would be the cause of my migraines, but it worked. Before the fusion, I would always feel stressed, tired, & on the verge of a migraine. I hope you find something that works for you soon. I know how it feels to live (barely living) with chronic migraines & I don't wish it on anyone! ((Hugs))
