After reading some of the topics maybe I shouldn't even worry about my pain. there must be a way other than pills to deal with the sometime, always and on and off pain that can go fro 0 to 60 and stay for an hour to days. Pain pills help to get some rest at times other times nothing other than a upset stomach for days. For the first time PT has helped some at times which is better than the past where it got worse. I have also noticed that my ability to do things or get things done has really gone done and that works on me mentally but hey us Vets are all crazy right. If you have something that works, let me know, I have a strong faith but also believe that God has given us the ability to take care of ourselves.
I have found that physical therapy, massage and acupuncture help. There is a period of time when starting one of the above where your body will resist treatment and it will hurt more. This is the body's natural reaction to change, especially if your muscles and joints have been tight for a long time. I have also noticed that you have to keep going. It's not a cure, just a treatment to help. I found if I don't go regularly it gets worse again. Exercise and eating right help a lot. Getting an IgG antibody test for food might help you eliminate foods that cause inflammation in your system. Naturopaths do the test, doctors don't believe in it. Proper posture will reduce strain. Accepting that some things you can't do anymore and that you can't do as much is huge and necessary. When you get upset or even mildly annoyed about your limitations your body will react with its normal stress reaction. For me that is even more muscle tension which increases the discomfort and pain. And depending on your condition you may still have bad days that are out of your control, but there are things that we can do to help ourselves and drugs should be a last resort.
It is a long and difficult process that a lot of people don't continue with. They give up on their posture because holding it properly causes pain in the fatigued and weak muscles. I am still working on maintaining proper posture for more than 10 minutes at a time. It took me almost a year to get past the physio and massage causing more pain for 2-3 days after treatment. I still get upset when I don't get something done, it is really really hard to eliminate the negative self-talk. We need to work on these things in baby steps and understand that it is going to take a while to see results. Please, please don't dismiss your pain because others have it worse. I know it is hard when you join these forums and everyone seems to be way worse then you, but it is good that you are looking for help before you reach that point. Everyone is different and your pain is not insignificant. It's easy to say things like exercise and eat right and harder to do those things. I hope you are able to find what works for you.
