upper radiating back pain

Oct 14, 2015 8:56 PM

Hi I am new to this site and today I think has been the worst and the newest pain I've felt. I have a bulging disc in my lower back so I always have pain except today For For the past three days I've been sick with the stomach flu. I am still very nauseated and I have an extremely fast metobalism so when I get sick like this I drop weight like like a professional wrestler pounds at a time..but today I experienced a different type of pain..it's in the middle of my shouldeR blades and radiates down my arms and directly down my spine. It's a aching pulling and ripping sensation

It's so painful I'm becoming even more nauseated by it and to I'm thinking of heading to the hospital but I breastfeed and am a mom mom of two small babies what do I do?

I wish I could help you. If you put rubberbands on your wrists it hits acupuncture points that suppresses nausea. I use to wear soft hair rubber bands up and down my arms to try and stop nausea and shift them around my arm in different places also. It helped me when I was taking oxycodone.

Rengrl, Welcome to the community. I'm sorry you're sick and hurting in your spine. Have you been throwing up? You may have pulled some muscles, which can get inflamed around the nerves coming from the spine. The disc bulges could have herniated. Have you tried ice or heat on the address? Since the pain is between the shoulder blades and going down your spine and into your arm, you may want to get checked.

As for breast feeding, I'm not sure if you can pass the virus to your baby. I wasn't able to breastfeed because I developed severe mastoiditis on the 3rd day. You may want to check with the pediatrician, to make sure you wouldn't pass the virus to the babies. I oppose you feel better soon. I'll say a prayer for you. 🙏🌼

Rengrl are you sure it is really the flu? I have 2 bulge/herniated/slipped discs (they all seem to mean the same thing). When the pain gets really bad I get the flu like symptoms anywhere from low grade fever, nausea, achy to full blown "fake flu". I have been telling my Dr this for the last year but Monday when it reached a peak I went in and she tested me for the flu. I told her I didn't have it. Sure enough the test was negative. She doubled my pain pills and it is starting to calm down. One of my disc issues is in the thorasic spine which they told me countless times the odds are rare of having it there. I had to really push to get the Mri done on that region. It makes my shoulder blade area hurt terribly. My shoulders and arms ache. Not sure if it is the disc or fibromyalgia but I can't brush my hair, most the time can barely manage a ponytail and haven't dried my hair with a blow dryer in over a year. My arms hurt and feel weak. The specialist said no BLT'S (bend, lift, twist) which really isn't possible. Heat and ice both irritate the pain for me.

Wishing you the best and hope they figure it all out to bring you some relief.

Yeah I'm thinking it could be tha. I only I can't brush my hair for a long time it hurt terribly..and I always thought that was normal but now I see that it isn't lol I have a lot to learn because this paon I've felt I thought that this was how you were suppose to feel like when I first got my glasses before it was blurred I thoughts that was normal and it obviously wasn't I envy those who feel little to no pain
