Urgent!!! Advice on spasms in fibromyalgia

May 05, 2015 4:48 PM

I have fibromyalgia and M.E. I have always suffered with attacks of spasms in my calves and extensive back area.

I have had almost continual spasming in back of l calf since the weekend. Now spread to effect front of ankle joint.
Yrs of trying any old wives tales and meds changes have not changed this part of condition. In so much pain I can stay still but I'm exhausted and usual PMA just ain't in it right now. If anyone can advice something new I would b grateful. Sanity on the line xx

The other name is chronic fatigue x

I haven't tried it myself but I heard/read that for some people compression can help the spasms. So if you have leg spasms you could try full leg compression stockings. Should be able to get them at a drug store or med supply store.

Thanku Aliya I do use tubigrip sometimes it helps. Have a good day x

I take a warm bath with Epson salt and rub the spasm while stretching my calves. There's not much stretching at first, but I slowly work my way to a good stretch.

I have a foam roller and I try to stretch on it but really, the only thing that brings me full relief is a muscle relaxer. Zanaflex helps me.

I get a weird flare that starts with a spam in my shoulder blade.
I have to put pressure on it, then put a pain cream on it.
The pain cream feels like a sunburn.
I also have random spasms that can make me scream, they hurt so bad.
Potassium usually helps.

That sounds very similar to mine both in locations and sensation. My consultant. Gives me trigger point injections in my back which help a great deal. Have a good day xx

Have you tried eating bananas,my brother belives in drinking pickle juice he keeps a jar in their refrigerator at all times for his leg cramps. Hop this will help, oh almost forgot potassium supplement but you need to check to see if yours is low first.

I have fibro. I use a heating pad for muscle spasms. If here severe, I take muscle relaxers too.

I have fibro and they have me on clonazepam & flexeril for muscle spasms and anxiety. I take tumeric, krill oil, glucosamine, & b complex. It helps keep flares under control. I am stay at home Mom & just chores & taking care of my kids causing swelling in my joints. I ride for 30-35 minutes at least 4x week on my stationary bike to keep in shape. It's a job in itself to stay well!

Hi, I have fibromyalgia and I just had surgery in March had my L4-5 fusion for fibromyalgia I take baclofen, gabapentine, celebrit, and Cymbalta. I can be laying down and the nerve hit me where ever

May 19, 2015 12:45 AM

I used magnesium..apparently I was low and it helped. Het bloodwork done. Alot if times it can be that you are low on something. People always overlook thinking its just fibro. But fibro can affect your body and cause difficiencies. Have you tried muscle relaxers? I use a combination of massage pain meds stretching and just rubing the affected area. Miacle relaxers always do the trick for me though. Check your blood though too..

You could try:
heat/cold
Bath with Epsom salts
Magnesium Malate
Cramp Bark
Kratom
massage
tens
Compression
Talk to Dr. About antispasmodic (iI. E. Baclofen which you could take daily to prevent spasms and Diazepam to relieve Amy spasms you do get

May 23, 2015 11:50 AM

Woops, forgot to add
Vitamin D
Vitamin K
Calcium

Thanku folks. Many things I have tried or am on like baclofen muscle relaxant. I find heat helps but ice makes things worse. I haven't had bloods done in last 6 mths and Forgot to ask about deficiencies last. I'm in uk so not same system and many drugs have different names but will check with my consultant who is very supportive. Have a good day all xx

Horse chestnut. .

May 31, 2015 10:18 AM

Horse chestnut as in the part that you peel off from the inside part of the horse's front legs???

Jun 05, 2015 8:55 PM

Horse chestnut tree. I don't think anyone was meaning horses front legs!!

Jun 06, 2015 8:33 AM

Alwayz you did me some good on the horse chestnuts I needed a chuckel.

Jun 06, 2015 8:37 AM

I never know if it is my Fibro or my Syringomyelia acting up on the spasm's. I mentioned to my Dr about my Fibro fog and he told me I doubt it had anything to do with Fibro fog. Since then I haven't even mentioned anything about my Fibro flares.

Jun 06, 2015 8:52 AM

Have you tried using rice hot packs to help with the spasm's sometimes heat helps my pain.

Jun 06, 2015 7:28 PM

That's too funny!!! Believe it or not, I have never heard of a horse chestnut tree.. LOL!!!! Glad I could give everyone a good chuckle with my stupidity... LOL!! I should have used common sense.

Jun 06, 2015 9:23 PM

Alwayz I wouldn't call it stupidity. That's a little harsh. You had never heard of horse chestnut tree.
