Vertigo - oh joy!

Feb 20, 2015 11:46 AM

Went to get out of my chair and suddenly the room was spinning! Slowly made my way to get a shower, and every time I closed my eyes to rinse hair ... Nausea hit. Omg...I have an appointment in 2 1/2 hr, and I can't drive like this! Guess my hubby is getting off early. Ugh!😲

Feb 20, 2015 8:22 PM

Hope you are feeling better by now and the vertigo has lessened or even better resolved Flappy?.

Feb 20, 2015 8:46 PM

Dr gave me antivert so its not as bad. I'm just moving slow so I don't set it off again. Odd thing noticed though...I developed a bad headache late afternoon, like a migraine. Couldn't help but wonder if the vertigo triggered it or maybe was a warning.

Feb 21, 2015 8:33 AM

Seems likely that it's related.

Feb 21, 2015 4:38 PM

I don't know for sure. Got up and after about 5 min as I turn a corner, suddenly the vertigo was back. Its stayed with me all day today, so I've moved slower. I tried to go to the store with my husband and physically became exh & short of breath. Came home and collapsed on the bed, slept nearly 2 hr. When I got up I could still feel the vertigo with certain movements, but my lower body & shoulders feel very achy & heavy.

My husband said he knew I didn't feel well because I'm grumpy. Go figure! So about 30 minutes later he asked, "You feel like going to the grocery store?" Uh, no! Omg...he just kills me sometimes.

Feb 22, 2015 2:25 PM

Sorry to hear about the vertigo. I got it this past week myself. I was in bed and turned my head and the whole world was spinning. Not a good feeling. Actually I was having extreme nausea the week before last that may have been a portending of the vertigo. When it started bothering me when I was up during the day I knew I needed to see the doctor. She also gave me Antivert. It is helping. She also suggested ginger and Sea Bands. I haven't tried those treatments to date. The Antivert really makes me groggy and out of it but it's better than having the vertigo be so severe. I've been grumpy too. Exactly, go figure. When one of the dogs threw up on the carpet I got up to stand near it so that both dogs would stay away from it. My hubby went to hand me the paper towels to clean it up. I just looked at him and said "Are you kidding me?" and I walked away. Yeah, I definitely want to bend over while I'm nauseous and having vertigo and clean that up. Wow! Hope you feel better soon. I know it's no fun.

Feb 22, 2015 7:41 PM

Its eased up a good bit today. Sometimes its true spinning vertigo and at others it just dizzy or off balanced. Its gotten worse and occurs more often since it started in '08-'09. I hate it!

Mar 02, 2015 7:09 AM

It's baaaack! Dizzy... My movements today will have to be slow. Got up out of the chair, headed to the kitchen and bam... Every movement of my head (side to side) feels like 1) my brain is moving slower than my head turns & 2) my body feels like every step i take is like walking on marshmallows or baloons; like trying to stay on your feet in an inflated fun house! Can't take the antivert because I have to drive to an appt. Lord help!

Mar 02, 2015 9:26 AM

Flappsy hope you get to feeling better to day, be careful on the roads. Keep in you in my thoughts and prayers

Mar 02, 2015 10:10 AM

Oh Flappys! That's terrible! Are u sure u are gonna be OK to drive? I hope u get to feeling better fast!! Be careful driving!! Gentle hugs and prayers headed to you!

Mar 02, 2015 11:34 AM

Thanks for your concern ladies! I'm much better. Weirdly enough, 30 minutes after the vertigo started I had tinnitus start in my right ear. I got a shower and got dressed, including the compression stockings. While I dried my hair I noticed the dizziness was much better, and tinnitus was barely noticeable. I thought, "Hmmm, wonder if I'll get dizzy again later, or what?" As it turns out I developed a headache in my right temple & forehead. I'm back home so going to treat for migraine and see where it goes. This is the 3rd time I've had vertigo (spinning) w/ a headache.

Mar 02, 2015 1:12 PM

FlappsyLady, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this vertigo. It's frightening and when it hits and the nausea comes, it's a nightmare!! I have found that with my ear feeling clogged and the inflammation in my jaw from the TMJ, I have found that sometimes just turning my head, bending over and getting back up or standing too fast, I get dizzy. Interestingly, I didn't connect the dizziness with my ear and I can't imagine why.. I guess with all that's wrong with me, being diagnosed with one more thing just made me shut down. I pray that it gets better soon. Please be very careful walking around, I don't want to see any posts that you took a spill. Feel better. 💕🙏😊

Mar 02, 2015 4:52 PM

AlwayZ, I've been fighting a headache all day, though the tinnitus and vertigo are gone. I'm not having nausea thank goodness, but the pain at the back of my neck is like squeezing pain and the front right forehead is pressure & throbbing.

Mar 02, 2015 7:18 PM

Flappsy Always I hope y'all get to feeling better soon. Be carefully walking around I don't want too see where y'all have fallen and broken something. Hugs and prayers

Mar 02, 2015 8:49 PM

Thankfully after 10.5 hours my headache is easing up. I'm wondering if the temperature change caused it??? We were high 40s Saturday & 50s Sunday, and my heat ran on & off both days. Now tonight the temperature inside my house is at 73, warmer than its been being. Its 67 outside which is warmer too. I've got my ceiling fans on because I don't want it any hotter inside or my AC will come on. Were going to be 78 degrees on Wednesday, so I won't be surprised if we get storms.

Mar 03, 2015 9:51 AM

I have to tell you, FlappsyLady that it seems like ANY weather changes... Temp, barometric pressure, humidity, rain, snow, etc. ALL cause me to have issues with my pain levels. Now, we had snow from Sunday into yesterday and I was in agony. Now, today into tomorrow it's going to snow again and then turn to rain and then Thursday it's going to snow a big storm again.... By the third day, I am usually down and out and completely crippled. That is when the pain becomes unbearable to the point that I cry and will start weeping if someone looks at me sideways. I hope that you feel better. I know you keep the house a steady temp but it all has to do with the atmosphere unfortunately. I hope you have a blessed and peaceful day.
Weezie, I thank you for your well wishes and prayers. They are always very much appreciated. Hope your day is also peaceful and light in pain.

Mar 03, 2015 12:35 PM

Alwayz I'm with u on the weather changes causing havoc with our bodies! It is miserable!

Mar 03, 2015 1:15 PM

Saw orthopedist this am about the vertigo & tremor episode last Friday, and about my feet cramping and drawing up. He was no help other than refer me back to the Neuro doc; says he thinks its all neurological. He did say the headaches are likely cervicogenic headaches being I have damage at the C2-3 level & below.

Mar 03, 2015 1:18 PM

Oh, and thanks AlwayZ! I hope your day is blessed with at least bearable pain if not reduced. I say we all save up, pool our money and buy a lodge in a tropical climate, not too hot & not too cold, and just breezy enough...any takers? 😉

Mar 03, 2015 1:41 PM

Sounds wonderful Flappys! I could use a break from all of this cold and snow! Unfortunately I am broke!

Flappys I noticed u mention melatonin on a post somewhere... What dosage do u take? I have used it before and it seemed to help some, but not sure how much I should be taking.

Mar 03, 2015 1:46 PM

Sometimes I take 3mg and sometimes I take 5mg.

Mar 03, 2015 4:03 PM

Meletonin needs are different for everyone. some people only need 1 mg. some MUCH more. I take 15-20 mg. But if you only need 1 mg then taking 5 might have the opposite effect on you. It's recommended that you start small and add on until you reach what you need. I figured out my dose by having my chiropractor test me.

Mar 03, 2015 9:56 PM

Thanks for all the info! I am going to try it out again. I think I was taking 5mg... I will start there and bump it up if I need to.

Wishing everyone good sleep and low pain days!! 😊

Mar 03, 2015 10:24 PM

Hi everyone ! I take a 3 MG but I take 12, I think I need to add more because it helps me sleep for a couple of hrs then wake up most of the time can't fall back to sleep again.I belive the weather dictates h ow our bodies react to it. Here it has been in the 30',40's with rain ,today it's been been in the 70's by Friday it's supposed to be back in the 20's and raining again. Thanks Always I hope each one b has a good pain free night as possible. Flappsy the tropical island sounds fantastic but I'm broke too unfortunately. Goodnight every one God bless

Mar 03, 2015 10:39 PM

Meletonin helps you fall asleep. Not stay asleep. When I wake up during the night taking more does not help me to fall back asleep.

Hi FlappysLady81, I've had similar symptoms for many years. Vertigo, tinnitus, headaches that wrap up and over and around the head, TMJ and so on. As well as pain throughout my other area of my body etc. read this book Healing Back Pain the Mind Body Connection. It has changed my outlook and life. It around 8 bucks. Then read about somatizaion pain disorder. Try Motrin 800 mg or Flexeril 10mg. I bet the muscles on the the back and sides of your neck are very tight or in spasm. Also some calcium supplements might help. I hope this helps and that you feel better. Since reading the book I have reduced my pain significantly. I have reduced tinnitus and vertigo by 90% and headaches are reduced as well.

Mar 04, 2015 8:15 AM

Dicksan, you described my headaches and how they usually start to a T! I will get that book. I'm on extra Vit D, but can't take ibuprofen or motrin due to a bleeding ulcer years ago. They put me on low dose aspirin for my heart and blood flow and told me to watch for problems.

Ever since my last neck fusion in 1995 the muscles on the right side of my neck & upper back/shoulder stay tight. Thanks for the info, I will check this out! 🌻

Mar 04, 2015 10:49 AM

Dicksan, I researched somatization pain disorder and actually came across a questionnaire. I found the information I've read so far very fascinating.

However according to what I researched so far, and my questionnaire answers, I likely do not have this. I have nerve damage at the neck discs which causes the tense muscles, and occasionally leads to a headache, migraine or not. The migraines actually started as a result of leaking spinal fluid following a myelogram, and they've continued since.

Regardless of my chronic spine issues since the early 90's, I was very healthy (other than IBS, migraines, TMJ and arthritis), until a mass developed in my pelvis in 2010. The inflammation in my body then and since interconnects everything. All of my symptoms are from damage done to my internal organs as a result of the mass, inflammation, & adhesions. I've had many surgeries, always out of necessity, but my body responds by developing more adhesions & inflammation.

I know the mind is a powerful part of our body. So I'm not doubting the mind body theory. I just don't think its my problem because 1) I don't suppress my feelings, 2) I'm a positive minded person (95% of time) and I had a successful career by being a hard worker, & 3) there are viable diagnosed issues causing my pain. I just don't relate to the descriptions and examples given.

Curious of the author's ideas, I did purchase the book to read. I will let you know what I think later. Thanks again! 😃

Mar 05, 2015 11:29 AM

FlappysLady81, Like you I've had many issues including IBS, and other ailments to keep the list short. I too have had many viable diagnosed issues causing my pain and other ailments. But the pain/vertigo and other symptoms kept coming and I starting looking elsewhere for answers.
Luckily for me I was at a New Years party and a concrete worker (a friend of a friend) told me about this book and how it helped him overcome serious pain. So I bought it and started reading it. I give him a hug every time we cross paths now.
Like you I also have always had a positive attitude and successful career through hard work. (Until these health issues began interfering with that)
Psychologically I thought I was fine. Till I read the book and began to realize that in order to stay positive and move forward in my career and help my family, that I was unknowingly suppressing certain emotions. I never would have said that before reading the book. So after taking a serious look into myself I realized what I've been doing. As a result my pain and other ailments have decreased considerably and continue to do so as I continue to work on myself. I hope the book can help and waiting to hear what you think. 😃

Hi Dicksan, I only had a few minutes to cover the introduction yesterday. But I read enough to make me want to read more.

Coincidentally I have have dizzy spells followed by headaches 4 of the past 7 days. I didn't use to get them together so its quite baffling to me.

I had a hearing exam this morning and she said I have had enough loss to put me on the border of hearing aids, my choice. She was more concerned about the cilia hairs not being as receptive to stimulus. She told me to talk to the neurologist.

I'm going to start reading this afternoon, but I get distracted easily so I don't know if I'll finish. Thanks again. 🌼

Mar 05, 2015 1:30 PM

Hey, FlappsyLady, I'm with you on that tropical thing... We'd be hurting but we'd have a hell of a lot of fun hanging out together!!!
